Medication can be used to temporarily control or reduce some of they symptoms of panic disorder. However, it doesn't treat or resolve the problem. Medication be useful in severe cases, but it should not be the only treatment pursued. Medication is most effective when combined with other treatments, such as therapy and lifestyle changes, that address the underlying causes of panic disorder.

Self-help tips for panic attacks and panic disorder

When it comes to panic attacks, professional treatment and therapy can make a big difference. But there are many things you can do to help yourself, too:
    • Learn about panic. Simply knowing more about panic can go a long way towards relieving your distress. So read up on anxiety, panic disorder, and the fight-or-flight response experienced during a panic attack. You’ll learn that the sensations and feelings you have when you panic are normal and that you aren’t going crazy.

    • Avoid smoking and caffeine. Smoking and caffeine can provoke panic attacks in people who are susceptible. As a result, it’s wise to avoid cigarettes, coffee, and other caffeinated beverages. Also be careful with medications that contain stimulants, such as diet pills and non-drowsy cold medications.

    • Learn how to control your breathing. Hyperventilation brings on many sensations (such as lightheadedness and tightness of the chest) that occur during a panic attack. Deep breathing, on the other hand, can relieve the symptoms of panic. By learning to control your breathing, you develop a coping skill that you can use to calm yourself down when you begin to feel anxious. If you know how to control your breathing, you are also less likely to create the very sensations that you are afraid of.

    • Practice relaxation techniques. When practiced regularly, activities such as yoga, meditation, and progressive muscle relaxation strengthen the body’s relaxation response – the opposite of the stress response involved in anxiety and panic. And not only do these relaxation practices promote relaxation, but they also increase feelings of joy and equanimity. So make time for them in your daily routine.

these past days, naka sulay ko ug sama sa mga symptoms nga gi post dire.

The first was late last year. Nikalit ra man to. I was sleeping when suddenly nakamata ko. I felt like there was something going on somewhere in me, something is racing or raging...ambot. Gikulbaan ko nga wala ko kasabot ug ngano. Murag akong hunahuna kay naay nag dahunog nga nga naghagong...unya nahadlok ko nga mo collapse ang atop/kisame sa akong kwarto...nga mapiit ko and ngitngit kaayo...nga i cannot move any body part...only my eyes can talk in total darkness...nga I can hear rescuers but dili ko ka siyagit...kafaet! I was just lying staring at the ceiling...I tried changing position, kulob, hayang, takilid...the thoughts will not go away! so nibarog ko, turned on the lights. nagpaso-paso sa ako bedroom. still wala gihapon nawala. I drank a glass of cold water, nangihi, tan-aw TV(naa pa may nag broadcast), read mags/books...pastilan, wala gihapon mawala. Siguro kadtong pag read na ko ug mags ni anam na to ug kawala. Kay paghigda na ko ug balik, lights turned off...nakatulog ra man ko ug balik.

The next day, I tried searching and understanding what happened that night. I ask my friend about my experience..and he said I might be experiencing PA. Browse ko sa internet...murag PA gyud tingali to. It occurred at least 3x or 4x since adtong last year nga first attack. I thought nga tingalig gi heart attack na ko...when I get my bloodpressure(digital wrist monitor) kada attack, OK ra man...less than 120/80 pa man gani. I am taking a doctor prescribed maintenance medication LIFECZAR(hypertension) and ESSENTIALE(fatty liver). I then remembered seeing a NatGeo program on building collapse with a survivor trapped for 15days. Duda ko usa to sa naka pa trigger sa ako hunahuna on "trapped, helpless and in total darkness".

I saw again on discovery channel last week an episode on trapped rescuers sa 911 twin tower attacks. Kadtong duha sila kabuok police officers nga natabunan....so far, after ani nga viewing...wala pa nibalik si PA. I hope dili na.

I have not referred it yet to a doctor. Tingali this week, inig balik na pud nako sa amo company doctor for a check-up.

urom mani imo boss.. kasuway ko ane wen i was a kid... makamata ka kalit den conscious u mind pero dli ka makalihok o maka syagit...
