Everything about TOURISM in CEBU

I agree with TS but I didn't like the facts he laid out.

First of all, we are Cebu. We have too much divided attention for everything. We are busy being a business district while cramming on making a saving face of our tourism.

I think its wrong to compare Japan and Cebu. Income wise, you're talking about Megashark versus the Great White. One more thing, Japan is a country, Cebu is a god damn province. You hear me?

The time for tourism in Cebu is over (in hyperbole). Being someone who has been born in the 90s, I can tell when going to beaches around Cebu was still fun especially back when I was a kid. When we talk about beaches and resorts long ago, we talk about Lapu-Lapu, Liloan, Danao, Minganilla, Talisay, etc.. Pero karon, where are those tourist destinations now? They're still there, some are declining but the active ones are in the rural North/South. Sometimes we just tend to forget that they're there and they're actually better than the ones in central Cebu.

Cebu went into industrialization after year 2000. We're juggling too many things with little income especially in the central area. Pili lang ta, tourism or industrialization? I prefer Industrialization because tourism can sit somewhere in the north or south of Cebu.

How about you try comparing Cebu and Boracay? Now thats a comparison EXCEPT that Boracay is too small to be industrialized, leaving Boracay to focus their efforts on tourism. While Cebu on the other hand, is too big, plenty of raw materials and is too industrialized. No time and resources to focus on Tourism anymore.

Even with tourism in central Cebu declining, I'm totally proud of this place. The people, the beaches (even though the best are pretty far), the culture, the camaraderie is just awesome.

One of the best Destination in the World? Sez who and on what qualifications has it garnered best? By a US Magazine, written by a contributor who was obviously heavily pampered and even bribed by our officials? Have you ever been out of the country? Or hell even out of Cebu?

If Cebu is is one of the best destination in the world then why does it only have a measly 200,000+ tourism arrivals? WOW, is that big enough for your own silly world? Compare that with ehhh Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok? Well for good measure how about compare it to Phuket? You can shout to the world you are the best but if practically no one visits it, then you will be nothing but a freaking joke, talking about being the "BEST" there..

Remember we are talking about the TOP TOURIST DESTINATION here as what is on the thread title... So how do we base "TOP" on? Or how do we define "TOP"? By Tourism arrivals? By Filipino/Cebuano Delusions which have resulted from years of government indoctrinations? Or a US Magazine which can easily be contradicted by hundreds of other magazines?

Yes, I have been to Japan and Im not a Cebuano but I can say Cebu is a top destination, bribed by our officials? you really think all good news happening on this country is just because it is bribed by our government? that's why this country won't fully progress coz of people like you...If you compare Cebu from before to now it went major upgrade and I can see that the government is trying their best to attract more tourist as they can but this progress is nothing if the people won't believe it and help.

CEBU has so many to offer and stating them here isn't enuf as already stated by others. Every place has its good side and bad side.

I wonder na unsa na ang TS kay wla nman ikatubag, mao guro gituyo jd niya himu ug dummy account. TS buhi pa ka Speak up and tell us what you think on regard sa mga comment sa mga tao or speechless lng jd ka!!!!

I have to agree with the TS. I think most people hating on him/her and who believe Cebu is really a top Asian destination are people who have never left Cebu or the Philippines. At best, we are a low-tier and cheap holiday destination, that is why a lot of thrifty Korean students and tourists come here. We are 1/10th the cost of studying English in Australia, 1/2 the cost of holidaying in Maldives/Bali. That is not to say that we aren't a good destination, but in the hierarchy of destinations we are definitely not in the top, not even in the top 10 in Asia.

If we live in a vacuum where Cebu is the only tourist destination in Asia, then we'd obviously be on top. That's the problem with people who've never left Cebu and visited other Asian destinations, they are biased because they haven't seen just how much better those other places are. Cebu lacks too much in infrastructure and in reality we are not even in the same league as those other Asian destinations. You can be an idealist or a realist. I live in Cebu too but I'm not going to pretend it is something that it is not. If we are truthful about our deficiencies then we can do something to improve on them. If we keep deluding ourselves into thinking we are the best, then we will never improve. Pretending we are the best will not change the opinions of tourists who come to our island who will continue to formulate unflattering comparisons between us and other Asian destinations they've visited.

Let us hope and pray that the DPWH's 100's of billions of available funding for this year will be spent on improving our non-existent tourism infrastructure...
