so, 1 Julian year is same with 1 light-year?

    1 light-year is exactly 31,557,600 light-seconds

    1 Julian year = 365.2425 days = 31,556,952 seconds

    31,557,600 ligh-seconds = 31,556,952 seconds

    but 1 light-year is = to 1 year

    how can that be rods?

maybe my calculation is not standard, I believe.

Haven't you heard of the term "approximation"?

In the scales involving galactic distances and vast chronological measurements, a difference of 648 seconds is negligible. Again, you are treading on taunts--stand down or be banned.

648 seconds multiplied by 240 million years rods. Kindly compute the error.

there is no taunting in here rods, I am just clarifying.

No, this is your campaign, pare ko, basang basa kasi kita eh, di mo lang alam. Your campaign goes like this:

    1. Let's try to present rodsky with a bit of a calculation problem, para kung tapulan siya'g compute, or dili nya ma compute, then it will DISCREDIT him i.e. make him look bad, and invoke or suggest ideas like "ngano man ning tawhana nga dili kabalo mag calculate kay gi assign man mag moderate sa science section sa istorya.net?" Sigurado ayos ni nga plano mga bords. In fact, klaro kaayo in your posts in the other thread nga kani dyud imong aim or objective, by asking questions like "scientist/inventor ba ka?" You're trying to sound friendly but you're actually trying to figure out if you can "corner" me by asking such questions.

    2. Once he gets discredited, people will lose respect in him, and the pressure will escalate and people will no longer support his brash and sweeping decisions in the Science section, and it could further spell his removal as moderator.

    3. Vern assigned me as the moderator of the science section--only he or Beor or Galadriel can revoke that.

    Have a good day.

please get back to the topic Rods. why would I discredit you?
you're experiencing a kind of paranoia maybe rods.
in the first place, you just reposted the article.

    I am just clarifying.

    OT

we are discussing facts here. you should/must stand with the subjects you posted.

648 seconds is 10 minutes and 48 seconds, way too big if multiplied by millions. it's X 10^6.

and we must note that (=) sign is not the same with approximately equal sign.

OT: Ok, points taken Rodsky.. and lets cool down. I hope analog man can be more.. subtle (rodsky is quite right, you can give it a rest bro). anyway can we go back to this 10 year old girl?

It was an announcement of a news article, which I do so on a regular basis here.

Let me restate--there is no computation involved-- 240 million light years means that the light in that event travelled across space for 240 million years before it got to the earth. It's a direct translation. There is no need to do the Julian calendar comparison.

ganahan d.i ka bai, (example) 245,544,323.239934312323335323423423423 ang makit.an nimo sa paper? or simply, 245 million?

how about value of PI? if you do math, we don't use all the numbers of it, just 3.14.. sometimes, 3.1416...

    I'm also clarifying.. ^_^

depende sa instructions, if approximation ang ipagamit. scientific notation.

press PI sa imo Sci Calcu. is it an approximate value?

    me too

    "there is no computation involved"
    -rodsky

How would they come up with that measurement if they don't compute?
