Nope, what I mean is the added features are what bring value to Vista. If you can't access extra features that bring extra value to your pc, you're better off with XP. Or Kubuntu. Comprende? It's almost as if you're forcing yourself to justify using Vista when it's not right for your system. If you can afford to upgrade to Vista, you should certainly be able to afford to upgrade your hardware. Buy the hardware first.

Your statement implicates that your reason to ugprade to vista is for the visual themes only.. in that case Windows Blinds and other skinning program can provide you with that.

i did speicifically say that you cant run with the 3rd GUI right? and you insisted on why bother installing when you cant access the "extra" features..
since i was talking about the 3D GUI and with your reply it indicated that part of your reason to get vista is for the 3D GUI.

Bai! Don't take it personal. Stay on topic. Remember the original post is if we NEED to upgrade to Vista. We're only helping people to make decisions here about whether to upgrade or not.

As of now, there is NO REAL reason to upgrade to Vista. Is there a software application in general use that WILL NOT run except in Vista? Will your hardware fail to function if you don't upgrade to Vista? At the very least, will your system perform better with Vista, because my personal tests indicate otherwise. And with particular regard to my earlier statements, WILL IT MAKE WHAT IS OLD AND APPARENTLY DATED EQUIPMENT run better?
