i dont think nga necessary pa ang avr. i'm using only a surge protector for 2 years and i havent encountered any problem. the only thing that made generic avr's cost P300+ is the 110v transformer. try opening a generic avr and you can see that its worth less than 30 pesos without the transformer. surge protector is enough to protect your system because it protects your psu from spikes or the sudden rise of voltage above the peak voltage. this spikes causes sudden rush of current that could destroy electronic components. electronic components are mostly destroyed by high voltage rather than low voltage because higher voltage means greater force to push the electrons. its like a pacman who could take a punch from el terrible but what if he's being punched by a mike tyson. if the peak voltage is exceeded it could cause leaks and deformations of the doped material. ripple voltage are not very critical because this could be eliminated by the regulator in powersupplies as long as it doesnt exceed the peak, then there's nothing to worry. but if you can afford an avr, then go ahead buy one.
