If I may add on this turbo issue. The starex uses VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger), unlike the Grandia where it uses Conventional Turbo. VGT may lessen the "Turbo Lag" but in the long run, it is more delicate since it has moving vanes inside the turbine, prone to damage as it has more moving parts.. While the Conventional Turbo use by the Grandia, may have longer life span..
All turbo chargers boost at a certain RPM (usually 2,500 rpm up for diesel). VGT actuates a little lower RPM bcoz of its variable vanes that directs/ redirects the flow of exhaust gas going to the turbine blades.. so if your turbo diesel engine run on lower RPM, turbo doesn't work and will just give you "muffler effect" which is commonly known as "TURBO LAG"..
Both Toyota and Hyundai owner here but SUVs lang. So far maayu man ang duha.. I dunno sa performance sa mga vans.. But i believe ang Toyota mas better when it comes to availability of spare parts and mas better in terms of service. Hyundai, medjo mahal mahal sila ug parts and sometimes dili pa available dayun, and i dont know why mahal, pero ok ang service..
If you go for Hyundai, well, we cant really say na its tried and tested na ang Starex. But if we talk about Toyota Grandia Vans, well take a good luck at those van-for-hires.. tried and tested na.
Kusug modagan.
Grandia d4d ang makina. Akong brod kay nagpadagan ug VHire magka problema kay usahay motirek. Giilisan na ug bomba, so far nabut-an kuno.
Starex way problema sa makina pero mahal ug pyesa/huwat ka minimum 1 ka buwan kung maguba. pero tungod kay brand new way problema.
Pinaka importante ang warranty...
Grandia 3 year warranty
Starex 5 year warranty

If I were to choose of the two, I would prefer Starex becoz of some personal reasons:
> Grandia sobra kadako, kinahanglan ka ug personal driver which I dont have one.
> Starex has the engine front, safe during frontal colision.
> Starex has both side sliding doors, easy acces on either side, Grandia has 1 side only.
> Grandia has 3 yr warranty, Starex has 5..
> My wife will never drive Grandia, But she can drive Starex (we have Spacegear which she can drive).
^^^ I sent my kids to an exclusive school and guess what? sige nako ug ihap ihap sa mga vans in the school inig kuha nako sa mga bata and I found mas daghan ang new generation starex than the grandia where my kids are studying.
starex especially the gold one, kosug kaau modagan
^^ kusog d.i modagan pag gold ang color sir? ehehehe!
