President Arroyo has approved around P60.8 billion worth of infrastructure investments for Cebu for 2006 to 2010, mostly for railways and ports.

Obviously, the best president the Philippines ever had was FVR.

It was during his time that the Philippines had a very clear direction through his Philippines 2000 program. It was also during his time that various industries grew, various infrastructures were built, investments started pouring in, new growth centers started to emerge (e.g. Cebu, Subic, Clark, Calabarzon, etc.) It was also during his time that Mindanao was given attention: airports, ports, power plants, etc. were developed in Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Davao City, etc.

We had a steady and rising growth during that time and some analysts were predicting that the Philippines would become a newly industrialized country (NIC) by 2010. We were then called the "Tigercub of Southeast Asia" (during the time of Marcos and Cory, we were known as the "sick man of Asia").

Unfortunately, the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 came. Worst, FVR's successor was a dimwit in the person of Erap Estrada. During the Asian Financial Crisis, we really needed a president who was strong and wise enough to lead the country in the midst of the crisis but with ERAP??

If only FVR's successor was anyone except ERAP, there's a possibility that the Philippines would really be different by now.

I agree. Trouble began when Erap won in 1998 and in our effort to get rid of him, we got Glue-ria, which is proven to be much worse than Erap.
