RP loses bid to host NCLEX due to test leakage

The country has lost its bid to become an accredited venue for the American licensure exams for foreign nurses due to an alleged test leakage in the 2006 local nursing board exams, ABS-CBN reported Monday.

Dante Ang, chairman of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), said he had received information that the country's application to be included in the list of international testing centers of the US National Commission on Licensure Examination (NCLEX) has been put on hold.

"We will not be included in the agenda of the [National Council of State Boards of Nursing] (NCSBN) to be considered as a testing site," Ang told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

"Na-defer tayo. (We were deferred.) We will not be in the agenda in the near future," he added.

Ang said several NCSBN officials visited the Philippines last March to discuss the country's bid to become an accredited international venue for the US nursing licensure exam. He said at least 83 percent of NCLEX examinees in international testing centers, particularly in Hong Kong, Guam and Saipan, are Filipinos.

He told DZMM that the country "had already reached third base" to hold the NCLEX exam here before reports of the local nursing board exam leakage broke out. He added that NCSBN officials are closely monitoring the developments of the investigation on the test leakage.

"We need to be very open about this investigation. We need to uphold our dignity, uphold our honor and prosecute the guilty parties," he said.

He added that the CFO and other government agencies will work to revive the country's bid as a foreign testing center for NCLEX in future NCSBN meetings.

He said the NCSBN has no set timetable on when it approves applications for foreign testing centers.

I absolutely agree. What I am really disturb is how PRC is handling the issue. First, they say those who want to retake should retake. What kind of stand is that.

Then it declared that it is holding in abeyance the mass oath taking of nursing passers on Aug. 22. Yet last week it allowed the oath taking of 4,000 nurses. The reason: What they are stopping is the massive oathtaking of the nurses but if anyone will show up, then they will allow the oathtaking. Ano ba yan? Parang kindergarten ang logic ng mga taga PRC. This is deception plain and simple.

Adding insult to injury is the comment of Raul Gonzalez de Iloilo that those nurses who passed should not be suffered to undergo a retake despite the leakage. It seems to me that the governing principle of the present government that its alright to cheat as long as you are not caught and as long as you know how to cover up.

I don't blame the students because they are the victims. Ang bitayon gyod ani ang nag himo ani nga scheme. I am very positive na na-ay people from PRC who are involved. Panitan ning mga tawhana unya paligiron ug asin para mo tagam.

coz they can't be so sure... that the NCLEX exams would be reliable, local ra gani nga licensure naa man gani leakage, how much more sa demand sa NCLEX?

i don't know for the past years... hinoon bisan pa sa una, naa na man jud ning leakage2x tingali mao tingali dugay jud ta giconsiders to host NCLEX.
base sa reports nga this YEAR nakaabot na jud onta ta third base in become on the countries accredited for NCLEX, medyo maka ingon ta nga na apektohan jud ila decision tungod sa leakage.

The government should go after those responsible for the leakage. It must show a strong hand in punishing those who have placed the future of the students in jeopardy because of their negligence.

By the way, the PRC did not include the scores from the scandal-tainted portions in the overall scores. There's no need for the students to have to retake the exams.
