Yes Rodion, I totally read your explanation before commenting here and I have read the title before that. Maybe the statement of the TS is a bit misleading but the previous title, as far as I remember was in question mark, which means that the readers would instantly know that the TS statement, including the source is not necessarily true. Science is about asking question, it is about speculating, about theory and hypothesis. If you restrict every topic like this in a Science thread, then the essence of Science would be gone. (I would also like to add that there are lot of topic like this, that is misleading, in this thread but no one closed it, even temporarily)
In all, I just wanted to say that the correct response for this is to point out that the TS statement is misleading and not to closed the topic entirely.
Anyway, that is all just my opinion.
Ask yourself--is the thread still closed? Please read the initial post I made again.I recall explicitly saying that I'll be temporarily closing the thread until the OFFICIAL NASA announcement has been made, after which I shall reopen the thread again, with the more appropriate title that's based on the NASA Press release. This is standard and accepted protocol in scientific circles, to prevent wild speculation from overflowing amongst the populace which know little about the topic at hand, in the aim of preventing such wild speculation to flower into matters which are erroneous in nature or "overblown" in terms of context and conclusions. Since this subforum in iStorya.net does aim to be of such level of restraint and discipline, the said actions were done.
Analogy:
Si Manny Paquiao daw buros. Pictures were released that depicts him lying with a big round stomach in the hospital. So what is the proper protocol? The hospital shuts down and prevents people from getting in, to stop the fueling of speculation and gossip nga buros dyud si Pacquiao. 24 hours later, the hospital releases a press statement that Pacquiao suffered from food poisoning and had a bloated tummy, and that he is NOT pregnant. Case closed. Protocol limited the spread of false information. Plus one on the scoreboard for science, zero score for sensationalism.

I would like to ask you ( or you can ask yourself), did I ask or say why the thread is still closed? And if you will read my initial post, I stated that I was wondering why this topic was closed previously.
Now, if recall it correctly the previous title was, Has NASA found Alien Life? How come that title is not appropriate? It did not claim anything that could lead to a wild speculation. And even if it were, when did the it became bad? Unless if the title reads "NASA Found Alien Life" then I would say that is inappropriate.
Closing the thread temporarily until the official NASA announcement does not actually mirror the standard and accepted protocol in scientific circles as what you claimed. When Albert Einstein published his relativity theories, which is unproven, revolutionary and unbelievable until now, the scientific community at that time did not ban it or prohibit any access to it. In fact they talked and argued about it and even study it. It actually fueled a wild speculation many of which are even erroneous. But his theories now is generally accepted by the scientific community. This is very different from closing the thread to prevent wild speculation and claiming that the action is aligned in standard protocol of scientific circles.
Now for the analogy. If we based it on this topic then the rumors would be; Si Pacquiao ba buros? It is very unlikely that the hospital would shut down just to prevent the speculation and gossip. They will probably shut down more in the reason of Pacquiao's safety. Unless if the issue is sensitive the media would still be allowed to interview Pacquiao or his family member to answer the question and to clear the misunderstanding. There maybe a press release but before that the story of Pacquiao's hospitalization were already in the news. See the analogy![]()
Key point...
Bingo. It was already published by the time the "wild speculations" ensued. The NASA announcement wasn't official yet when the TS posted this thread. In fact, if you look at the 2nd and 3rd posts in this thread (both of which are mine), the time difference is only barely 18 hours, which to me (and the obvious reason for these series of rants I've been posting here) does not warrant a complaint to the moderator.

nah...it's another pseudo science....dont get too cocky!
See what I mean? Until this claim is substantiated I'm once again reclosing the thread. If you want to discuss on issues pertaining to unsure claims/false findings in science, then do please start a more general topic on it. I'll unlock this thread once the researchers clear up and explain their side.
