There are always protectionist-minded people who would do anything just to protect what they patronize, even though they know those joints are not doing enough to be competitive not just locally but regionally and higher. Look at how they reacted when Starbucks first arrived in Cebu, when Makro first opened, when SM City Cebu opened, and so on. I noticed they'll say anything and even make accusations or spread fear just to attack new enterprises like S&R, a firm which has received tons of local attention.

As for local enterprise, they'll need to change fast and improve because otherwise they'll become victims of change themselves. For the most part, formulas of success that worked before would not work again in a rapidly changing economy.

Oh yeah, quality plus value for money and savings are real if people look around for it.

advantages for rich people..... the gas for going there, the amount of time, the effort......

not really threatened.... not all of us have cars to go there....not all of us is willing to "PAY TO SHOP"....

i dont think snr's fate would be like makro's. most of snr's products are imported while makro is selling local. even i would prefer shopping at sm or parkmall over makro. i've heard that makro's operation is only until december and SM will use the space for their bodega.
