Microsoft’s Kinect is proving to be quite the talking point in the run up to Christmas this year and since the start of August it has consistently been written about more than Sony’s Move. In the past four months Move has been written about 737 times, with Kinect gaining nearly double that amount of exposure with 1,325 individual articles mentioning the device.
As is clear in the above graph, the past month has been especially good to Kinect with it’s November launch getting much more coverage than Move’s September release.
The data has been gathered by Wire.vg, a gaming news tracker (operated by Nukezilla), which also calculated that the pair combined accounted for 3% of all articles produced.
Microsoft has predicted/boasted an estimated 5 million Kinect units will be sold this season, a claim backed up by analysts (FT). Sony have not released their Christmas estimates, but the general consensus seems to be Move isn’t shifting as well as Sony had hoped (but still easily in the multi-million units), though they do expect, or at least say they expect, strong Christmas sales (CVG, Bloomberg).
When both devices were shown at E3, Kinect also gained a significantly higher share of the press’ attention. That trend seems to be continuing into the key festive buying season, where a significant percentage of all hardware sales ocure.
Kinect Dominates Discussion, Gets Double The Exposure of Move - Nukezilla
my friend has kinect delay daw ang sensor T_T he said na the hardware is not yet that sensitive
^^ Yah naa jud daw lag gamay...gi sulti mani ang lag sa mga game reviews
I'm playing Kinect with the bundled Adventures game at the moment and the only time I notice any lag is during the 'Rally Ball' activity. And even then, it's barely noticeable and nothing to a point where it ruins the experience for you.
To be quite honest, that's not the hurdle for Kinect at the moment. It's actually the play space. You need at least a 6ft distance from the sensor for single player and around 8ft for a 2 player experience. Now if you got a huge lounge or entertainment room then it's not an issue. However for people who lives on small apartments or for those who plan to setup Kinect on their small bedrooms, can be a problem.
