which brings to mind...the infamous Philippine Kugtong...
one was thought to inhabit the waters in Mactan... near General Milling..
The kugtong, as far as I know, is just a very huge grouper fish...
And I have read that the fish lapulapu, as it is known in Luzon, is called pugapo in Cebu.
In the olden times, however, it was known as kugtong when it matured into a size big enough to swallow a man.

True, the fish found near General Milling are known to be large and fat... this is probably due to the fact that General Milling dump the safe, biological residues from their grains and wheat processes into the Channel thus adding a new food source to the marine life.

@MyMaria, the photos of the 'merman' or the 'rusalka', where did you acquire them? The same photos are featured also in another thread in the istoryan Politics and Current Events board and if I trace their link via properties, it features the name 'Malapascua' on the address...

Anyhoo, I'm wondering how much faith you put into the rusalka origin theory... spirit of a drowned woman turned into a fish monster? Please forgive the doubt, but it sounds kind of primitive to me. Now if it were that rusalkas are actually an evolved terran fish species older than man, or perhaps an aquatic alien race that now has a colony on Earth, or perhaps a human/fish hybrid created by God-like aliens fooling around with evolution, or perhaps the whole thing is just a hoax.. then you'd get my vote.

Could it possible that a free soul bent on malice and revenge could actually merge with a physical body say a fish and alter its physical appearance? We've all heard accounts that in demon possession, the human victims change certain physiological aspects that defy anatomy and take on those of their demonic tormentor. Could it be just the same with the rusalka? After all if we consider a soul just a matter of energy, and it being able to generate both positive and negative forces, then a malicious soul would be like a serious bad form of nuclear radiation just on a karmic level. We know that nuclear radiation can cause cells to mutate and alter form. Certain fish species in water bodies near Chernobyl were found to possess certain deformities like extra limbs~!

for years i've been hearing stories from coastal folks about their experiences encountering half-humanoid half-fish creatures...if this picture is that of a genuine elusive sea merman called rusalka, then this specimen should be studied. where is the carcass now? is there a findings what killed this creature?
