of course. everyone knows that.
But the fact that they aren't in a contract with a huge recording company like Warner Music (Dice&K9, the same indie label with urbandub), lisod kaau ang kwarta. I think they're either still looking for someone to land them a great record deal or they just want to stay indie. The truth is, everyone needs Manila to go big. But urbandub was just pure lucky-- or was it fate.. they do write great songs.
Tan-awa ra gud.. just make a song sounding like "otso-otso" or "sayaw kikay", land a deal with a stupid record label like Alpha or something, go and reside in manila and before long everyone in the country will be hearing your song.
point in fact!! although urbandub is under a cebu-based indie label (lighter press), they have the sweetest deal of all... THEY HAD THEIR MUSIC DISTRIBUTED BY A MAJOR LABEL (EMI)!! In that way, they are sold at virtually every music store in the country, without the hassles of doing FREE Promotional gigs, having duets with Carlos Agassi, their songs being re-made by the ***-bomb girls, appearing on Sitcoms. These guys have ARTISTIC FREEDOM, something that a lot of SIGNED bands don't have... Even artists in manila are so envious with U-Dub's deal... By the way, Sandwich also has the same type of deal with EMI..
Yeah, but the money's not too good- but I guess they don't care about the cash.![]()
The main question is plain and simple "Why do we need to go to Manila to get famous?"... a simple answer is - you dont have to if you dont want to. It's a decision. But always remember to weigh your options. Manila has wider mileage and fame can do a lot of better things for one's career.
hmm.. by the way, i forgot to mention.. If a band "SIGNS" with a major label, they basically get a lot less in terms of royalties, somewhere between 6-20% of the entire take... However, if a band gets a "DISTRIBUTION" deal with a major label, they get more, somewhere between 20-40%.. Imagine the difference!!! Indie bands who get to be distributed by labels get to be sold in the same music shops as "signed" artists.. The only benefit i can see for signing with a major label is the "promotional blitz" or exposure.. However, the signed artist doesn't have a say on how they're gonna be promoted, because the label wants to recoup it's investment and thus it wants complete control on how they're gonna spend money...Originally Posted by tingkagol

Ey tingkagol! Many of us here probably do research on stuff like these. Before one makes an assumption, it would always be helpful to be prepared to back up words with facts. Cujo probably knows more than all of us here. What Cujo "claimed" is something we should take as valuable information and insight - not something to question about. Instead of questioning Cujo's "claim", why dont you verify the information yourself? Prove him wrong. But then again, what would a forum be without a debate eh? Hahaha
