That depends on how you put-up your statement. If posted it as shout out on your own wall as long as you haven't mentioned a name then you don't have to worry anything, but if you've posted something on another person's wall and your statement contains malicious words degrading a person's reputation and lowers the esteem, honor or respect then you will be liable for a libel case.

Just like what happened to the veteran Actress Gina Alajar who was sued with a libel case by Crysta Ranillo's family.

    THE ELEMENTS OF LIBEL

    1. Defamatory imputation - that lowers the esteem, honor or respect that a person is regarded
    2. Publicity - must be seen or known by a third person, other than whom the libelous statement is addressed
    3. Identification - the person libeled must be identified
    4. Malice - if there is no good intention or justified motive for the defamatory statement. Reckless disregard for the truth.

"When you put something on your Facebook, you're publishing it at the very least to your friends. But in libel law, even if you send [a libelous statement] to 2 or 3 people, that's libel. That's enough to meet the standard for publication in libel."

BTW TS, What she accused you is it really not true? Kinda odd for a friend who owe you so much to make such accusation.

Tinuod man kaha imong gipost? Kung tinuod di na libel. Isa ka requirement daw para malibel kay ang gipangyawit kay dili tinuod.

Anyway, kailangan pa man sad na iprove niya nga false ang claim ug nakacause gyud ug harm sa iyaha....

Pwede man siguro ka kafile countersuit. Wala man kaha siya bayad2 nimo ug giTY imong stuff?

Let me guess , your ex-bestfriend is black ..

Anyways ma'am nitwit (I don't even know how got away with that username) , you're gonna lose the battle IF she has legit proofs of LIBEL / DEFAMATION such as copies of your malicious comments against her on Facebook .. If you can counter her claims , such as proofs of her malicious comments against you , the judge will likely dismiss the case because both of you are funny and the judge would rather waste his time on big cases instead of this "childish" case -- that being said , you'll be off the hook !!

If you feel that you are losing the battle , maybe you might have to consider a SETTLEMENT (mostly used by prominent public figures) .. I know it sucks that you have to quit the fight , but it's better than losing in court that will make a stain on your rep for the rest of your life and give her the amount of money she asked ..

    Take it from Sassuru. ^_~

A libel case takes around 1-2 years to process, as far as I know. My mom is filing a libel case against someone and is pretty sure to win since we have solid pieces of evidence to disprove the claims of the accused and to add further damage against her, we filed the case with moral damages entailed with it and if we win, she'll be more poverty-stricken than she already is.
