    i dont partition my hdd.

    i have them separately.

its faster since..say.if ur using photoshop and saving big files..the partitioned hdd will at the same time write and read the program files at the same time saving the file on another partition while at the same time writing the temp on another partiton in the same hdd..

    equation : SataII 3.0Gbps / 3

it will difintly slow down the process. a gud example is to send 3 different 50mb file to ur usb drive one after another @ 1 second interval.

even HDD with NCQ suffers this bottleneck.

while..having different hdd maximizes the read and write capability of the hdd simultaneously on differnt drives.

writing | reading on Drive C: OS Disk- say 80GB full partition

writing | reading on Drive d: Scratch Disk- say 80GB full partition

writing | reading on Drive e: Files Disk- say 80GB full partition

    equation : SataII 3.0Gbps / 1 Full Speed

    get the point?

and to multiply nod partitioned HDD read | write capability..RAID is applied..in many flavors

in my personal view, partition is needed. all programs saved in drive c while my personal files at drive d. in case a reformat is needed, i will not transfer anymore my personal files.

If your drive is too large for a certain purpose e.g.system drive, make use of it's free space by adding another partition for saving files.hope that answers your question...

^^^^^ for above posts. As i've said earlier, all is from user's preference.

because if example, i only intend to make use of my pc for running an os only and browsing, i wouldn't mind so much with partition. but if, i got some stuffs that i need to organize and keep safe, first option is partition the drive.

Will this apply to an hdd with 2 partitions in which one is for OS, programs, and files and second for backup purposes ONLY? Wa man ka ga-access sa second partition di ba coz the program files and your documents are just on partition 1. So, dili madivide ang read/write speed.. Mafocus ra sa 1st partition. Am I making any sense? hehe.. Please enlighten me
