Pros: Love the build quality yet lighter and more portable, takes excellent photographs, long battery life, quiet shutter release, 11pt AF, Multicam 1000.
Cons: No live view (although I find this utterly useless as I never used the LV of my 450D, save this feature for point-and-shoot cams!), No HD video recording (I would've wanted this feature although I already have a dedicated video camera), smallish & slow image buffer for burst mode, no proximity sensor near the view finder.
Opinion:
I love everything about this slr. I came from a Canon 450D paired with the S5is as my secondary camera. After using the 450D for 6mos. though, the supplied kit lens had problems. The autofocus wouldn't function anymore.
That said, I set out to find an slr with a better build quality. The Nikons felt much more solid as compared to my Canons. I used to be a Canon fan but after what happened to my 450D and my S5is (the viewfinder eyecup fell apart), I decided to go for Nikon.
The D3000 was a great choice! Primarily, I was going to get the D5000 but after reading a few reviews, the D5000 was said to have sharpness issues as compared to the D3000. Not to mention the recall they currently have on the D5000 (check the Nikon website).
This camera is an entry-level, no doubt. But really, it's not the camera itself. It's the person behind it.
