bri, since this is also a critic my shot thread, can this be also a discussion thread?
like do you guys wanna share how to set up the lighting? or how many lighting you usually use?
do you use accessories like reflectors, diffusers?
@ primal and p-chan do you PP on your shots?
if discussion is not allowed, disregard this post.thanks
@bahiista: yes, I do PP on my shots but I keep it to a minimum (basic retouch, slight curve adjustment for brightness), I try to keep it as "natural" looking as possible.. paet kaayo na oie... na mo ana ang tao ug "nindota pag ka photoshop oie"..
like this for example
<- if I remember it right purag gi +20 ra man tingali ni nako ang fill then +10 sa contrast
shot in aperture mode set in f/4 @ ISO400, lighting: one reflector (silver)
but I do have a fair share of over-pp images like this:
1/10", f/1.8 @ iso 100 on tripod
one light with umbrella
PP, passed this in noise ninja twice

tip in getting professional looking images:
plan and prepare your shoot:
be selective when it comes to models.... look for a model that will make your images look professional.
models who know how to pose and have the body framework...and someone who looks like a model.
if models have a huge assortment of wardrobe then good...or get a wardrobe stylist
if you need to select the wardrobe... plan the colors with the background... choose a wardrobe that flatters the model (glamor style)... if it's fashion... then it's the designer's call.
get a good make up artist and a hair stylist.
get a flash. or even learn how to use your on board flash as fill or key light.... use it with ambient light....if you don't have strobes.
without planning... all your images would look like regular snapshots of people trying to pose.

of course. All fashion/glamor images are PPed. Check out fashion magazines... look at the ads....all of those are PPed.
Just to get you in on a secret... all the models you see in magazines? they don't have that smooth creamy white skin.... especially beauty ads... they are smoothened...dodged and burned... etc... it's not a crime to PP... it's optimization of images. I use to think when I first started that PP is bad... PP is bad when used and applied in the wrong way.
I use light modifiers as needed.... On location.. ambient light if possible, but I try not to make my images flat... so I use strobes to avoid that.
