Stupid unbiblical statement. Clearly a sign that Catholic preachers don't read the bible.

This one is biblical:

Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Wala nang nalalaman pa ang patay. Kahit bigyan pa ng bulaklak, or garden. Wala na silang alam sa mundo. Ang "cleansing of souls" na sinasabi ng magaling na Monsignor ay hindi mangyayari. Not even in our prayers.

Ang tunay na mangyayari ay kikita ang mga vendors ng bulaklak at siyempre ang simbahan sa dami ng magpapamisa.

IF Msgr. Achilles Dakay, media liaison officer of the Cebu archdiocese, has his way he will discourage people from using the word “kalag-kalag” for the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, as this promotes superstition.

I don't know if my good monsignor-friend spoke on his own or for the entire archdiocese. “Kalag-kalag” has been used by Cebuanos all over Visayas and Mindanao even before Dakay was born and became a priest and a monsignor.

For me, there is nothing wrong with “kalag-kalag.” The most important thing is that we remember our departed loved ones.

Filipinos have been influenced by Spanish tradition, culture and religion. Todos los Santos and Todos los Muertos are the Spanish words for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. The Tagalogs call it Araw ng mga Santos at Araw nga mga Kaluluwa or Undas for short.

For the Bisaya, it should have been Adlaw sa mga Santos and Adlaw sa mga Kalag. But those are long phrases. And Msgr. Dakay knows that we Bisdaks are known for doubling words, like bahug-bahug, lipat-lipat, tago-tago, duwa-duwa, iring iring ug jer-jer.
