There's no such as thing as best for desktop/laptop. It all comes down to your taste. Try mo katong mga most supported distros and see for yourself kung unsa ang angay nimo. Like ubuntu, opensuse, fedora, mandriva, debian, etc... Try looking sa DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD. naa silay ranking based sa hit-per-day for every distro. kung naa kay problema sa mga distro, feel free to post here.

i've been away for some time from this thread but i'm reporting back in starting now.

i just repartitioned my netbook (past bad partition decisions were beginning to give me nightmares) and installed ubuntu netbook edition 10.10. so far so good.

UNE 10.10 has a new user interface which i find greatly reduces the number of mouse movements i have to do to get to the apps i want. mileage varies, of course. its got its bumps and grinds, though. it can be slow and the keyboard shortcuts i've been used to are no longer available. looks like my keyboard warrior ways are going to get dull. well, productivity is priority one.

i opted for UNE primarily because i wanted to optimize my netbook computer use and i've met that goal, i think. screen use is more optimized (F11 is your friend), miniscule trackpad usage has dropped and boot times are quicker.

anyone else tried UNE 10.10 on their netbooks yet? what's your mileage like?

p.s.: so awesome that ubuntu released their 10.10 release on 10/10/10.

you have to re-do the installation back up your files then reinstall ubuntu 10.10
    you'll see big difference

ang ganahan na nako sa 10.10 kay murag easier na ka mag install ug mga applications

i'm guessing you can but it's probably not the best thing to do. better to reformat and do a clean install. this sucks 'cause your going to lose your settings and have to do some backing up - unless you separated your partitions.

in case you didn't here's a good idea for partitioning your linux partition (single OS boot):

    • 10-15gB for /root partition
    • 1-2gB for swap partition (suggestion, if you have less than 1gB of ram, this should be twice as big as you ram
    • the rest, make it your /home partition
