not to be lack of politeness but it is not a good idea to have your rim repaired, it's like you're inviting death to your ride... i'm pretty sure there is a difference in handling now that it is repaired. you shouldn't mess with alloy rims. not safe.

over 2 years ago bent my left front rim. why risk fixing? so decided to purchase new set of rims same size 18" but a lot cooler look.

With my years of welding experience , i suggest you do the preparation of your rims and let them do the welding, first is to check the aluminum series, 2000 and 7000 is not weldable thats why airplane wings are not welded but riveted, if your crack is hairline that crosses from point to point. drill a hole para dle na mudagan. grind it with a deburing tool na tapered para vee na groove so you can have deep welding penetration. All welding secret is in the preparation and application and in welding aluminum is you have to clean it like if you are gonna eat on it, degrease it, sand it,wash it with detergent or brush it with stainless brush, not steel brush due to iron deposition, alumn is non ferous, iron is ferous,a shiny coat that forms on top of your aluminum is alcalad(oxide) that has higher melting point than your aluminum so you have to sand it and clean it with alcohol or acetone or dip it in a diluted cuastic soda, Aluminum never changes in color at any temperature, even melting point, not like steel na mo change ang color kung init na. Sa Welding aplication its best to us AC/DC tig welding, MIG,MMA or gas weld will do, 4043 rod is good for casting as well as 5356 rods.if you want it anodize use 5356 because 4043 will turn black. Can help you with your welding needs, Want to be welding engineer? Na a ta training dis Nov. sa manila. Contact Philippine Welding Society.
