I agree! I understand we humans are by nature have imperfections however for a medical practitioner who deals with life that should'nt have been a case hence medical and nursing schools are very expensive. I suppose medical practitioners must have learned enough from their rigid training thereby making mistakes impossible. However it made me think otherwise upon viewing this thread. I'm not a nurse nor had any relation to medicine or whatsoever and it concerns me that with all these stories of negligence, I can no longer entrust my life or my loved ones' lives (simbako lang) to NURSES! How pathetic oi!

Perhaps it's best to delete this thread. What's good in spreading nurses' mistakes anyway? It's so immature and unprofessional to look at ( from the point of view of a layman). This only adds to the theory that nurses in the Philippines are incompetent!

Y not ask a approval of your request to the admin. write to them if that is wat u think. i pretty understand ur opinion on this. However, true that no mistakes have a place in the medical field because we are dealing with lives. But u cant totally eradicate these possibilities regardless of the status of a country. NOT just The USED to be Great America have their piece of major mistakes as well, that is why they have a very strict medical jurisprudence implemented. Due to this, they too made some abuse in such implementations towards the medical health provider. Making money out of simple complaints, feeling that they are the only patient to be dealt with even their problems are the simplest compared to a life threatening cases. BUT they dont hear this...because they want to be treated first, leaving us no dignity for workers over here!

Think it na 3rd world country ta and our medical health system sucks....but if u are just here abroad and compare our Residents and Interns to theirs, YOU will say we have an edge of doing more a great deal of a job than them. All we need is opportunity and a better working situation.

Try not to demean RNs just by reading the posts, instead empower yourself and your family (if ever) to be part of the care plan. there is no harm in questioning doctors, nurses, and other health provider if you have some uncertainties on procedures, treatments etc...fill urself with knowledge if u like, however just a FAVOR to ask...when u will try to question these health providers, asked it in a NICE WAY rather than appearing so superior!

exactly, you are the biggest factor to your recovery, so be part of the care plan. i think these posts are for me learnings and lessons that i will always be careful in dealing with my patients bearing in mind, that we nurses are full realizations of Christ's healing ministry here on earth.

@itzurisen, i think there are just people who take things in a negative way right away. we cannot do anything with that if FEAR rules over their heart and mind dayon instead of putting a gud meaning on some experiences. it will be us who will try to understand them further...

You're right. Perhaps I should have addressed my post to the admin as I agree with tonskie1102 that this thread is not good to start with. Nurses can discuss their experiences or the mistakes they made for them to learn but perhaps not in the venue where people outside their profession or people who might become one of their patients can see. Honestly I tell you it projects incompetence and unprofessionalism, at least for me.

Also, I don't mean to demean RN if this is how my post came to you. I am just simply expressing my concern over these multiple accounts of negligence as shared to us by our fellow istoryans. I am concern that what if one day I'm gonna be one of your patients (simbako lang) and all these mistakes will unfortunately befell upon me. You can't blame me for feeling this way and I know you didn't and that you understood as what you said.

Furthermore, I appreciate your advice regarding care plan? Perhaps it's time for me indeed to look into it. And I promise I'm gonna ask health providers in a nice way rather than appearing so superior.

As i have said, i do understand your point in all its essence. U may do so whatever you think is best and i think to give a respect to the TS, then let him know.

One thing only i can assure you that, YOU wont become my patient at all or at least layo ra ang chances coz i am not currently practicing sa PI.

thanks for taking the advice and you can tell you family members as well to empower themselves and not just say...."YES doc/Sir/Ma'am...." most of the time ug ma hospitalize. Get their names if you are not certain of wat they are doing or they cant give you any reason for doing such treatments or procedures.

@apathetic child and to the other nurses who have committed a mistake, and to those who want to prevent that mistake. This thread would be a good read, provided that the practitioner who posted their mistake would also post how they managed to correct that mistake and, moving forward, prevent that mistake from happening again.

As a nurse, I haven't made any major mistake, I have made minor mistakes such as body positioning, how to hold a particular equipment. Minor mistakes that make me less efficient but not endangering any one's health. I have made near major mistakes though. One of which is when giving of meds esp in night shift, when you are tired and your brain starts playing tricks on you.
I was about to give an anti-biotics to some patients. I looked at the ticket, and compared it to the px name tag. I was about to give the med via IV, when i stopped to recheck the name. Then I realized na lahi ang first name. Duha sila ka patient na pareho last name. Hapit na jud nako itusok, so I stopped and explained to the SO na naa sa ko kuhaon i inject nako una kay para dili hapodosan ang bata. There I realized that nursing training has really paid off. To be critical and observant and to always recheck and double check. Ako mejo hinay ko mutrabaho as a nurse, pero sinigurista ako trabaho.

To people who blame na ang quality of nurses sa Pinas is di maayo...That is untrue. Philippines is home to the best nurses. There is little ground to call our nurses pathetic, for most of them are hard working. It is not the education that is to blame, but ang system in general. Sa pilipinas ra ka kita ug usa ka nurse na mu handle ug at least 10 patients. Mao ni minimum sa ako nahibaw-an. Sa uban hosp muabot pa gani ug 30-50 px ang usa ka nurse. Kinsa may maayong laki ana aber? Pero put a filipino nurse in an american setting, di ba kay mu out shine na siya sa uban. So before mo mu comment ug maot, ask yourself, have you been in the shoes of a nurse?

I am speaking on behalf of those na gi kasing2x nila ila trabaho...Sa mga nurse na nagpaka nurse2x lang, pero wa gi sud sa ila dughan ila trabaho and wa nila taronga ila trabaho, wa moy labot sa akong defense.

agree ko ani. naay mga hospitals nga lack ug facilities but filipino nurses are wise enough to use other alternatives of care. though not ideal but at least makatabang in one way or another. filipino nurses are resourceful. hehe
