Tell your friends and neighbors about Gardenia's Cebu plans. Shortly after the start of plant operations here in Cebu, the distribution should follow and customers will be able choose and buy their products.

Details about Gardenia doing business in Cebu.

Gardenia Bakeries Philippines Inc. (GBPI) is expanding into the Visayas and Mindanao as it expects to hit the P3-billion sales mark in 2011 in core markets Metro Manila and Luzon.

The company’s P100 million facility in Cebu, the first after its Laguna factory, is set for commercial operation in January, BPI president Simplicio Umali Jr. said.

Touted as the biggest bread making facility in the province at a capacity 2,000 loaves per hour, the fully automated plant will serve Cebu island, nearby Bohol and Northern Mindanao growth centers Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Iligan and Malaybalay.

Umali said GBPI will put up a factory in Davao in two years to penetrate Central Mindanao.

Umali said GBPI initially invested P20 million for the equipment now being installed in the 2,000-square meter building. The company is leasing the 4,000-sq.m. property in Cebu under a 10-year contract with a provision for another 3,000 sq.m. of property adjacent to it.

Initially, the Cebu facility is expected to generate P100 million in sales per year, increasing to P300 million over the medium term and up to P500 million.

Umali said payback is seen in four years due to healthy outlay on equipment and logistical support. Gardenia’s unique distribution system utilizes a fleet of feeder trucks and delivery vans
    .

"Cebu is a price conscious market but it is a big market in itself. Bohol is also a growing market," Umali said

Umali said the Cebu factory can also start servicing Camiguin, Ozamis and Dipolog via roll on-roll off vessels. But once the Davao facility is up, it will take over service of the Central Mindanao market.

Umali said GBPI’s central factory in Binan, Laguna, which has five facilities producing 12,000 loaves per hour, is expanding to produce more buns or pandesal and snack items.

Umali said the plant also serves southern markets from Batangas and Sorsogon such as Mindoro, Iloilo, Dumaguete, Samar and Leyte through roll on-roll off vessels.

With consumer confidence now back, GBPI expects to grow sales by 25 percent this year in terms of volume on top of the 5 percent growth in 2009, putting Gardenia’s share to 65 percent in Metro Manila and environs.

Umali said value-wise growth is expected to be smaller due to a price reduction but is within the vicinity of P2.6 billion, still up from P2.2 billion in 2009.

Umali said sales are expected to hit P3 billion in 2011, and market share expanding further to 70 percent, excluding Cebu’s contribution.

In the North, Gardenia is available up to Pagudpud in Ilocos.

Gardenia’s new plant in Cebu will feature giant horizontal mixers from the United States, an automated dough divider-rounder and intermediate proofer equipment from the Netherlands, a tunnel oven with a race track bread cooling conveyor from Germany, and an automated slicer and bread bagger from the United States.

    The factory will employ 100.

Gardenia said it will utilize the finest ingredients from all over the world to ensure the same high quality and good tasting loaf breads.

There is more to the product quality than hype.

I know because I myself tasted almost all of Gardenia's offerings.
