    Default FRAT WAR...THREAT TO PEACE

@SPRINGFIELD_XD_40: I salute you if that's the main reason why you join a fraternity... yeah that's suppose to be the main point of having a fraternity. But if we we're going to count how many men and women are joining with the same reason as you... ambot maka abot ba kaha og 1/4 sa inyo population. Hope I'm wrong.

Our nation? YES... but most of our leaders? A big No! Are you proud of those people who love to lie? who takes advantage of their constituents?

And about that hazing thing... is physical test needed in Fraternities? you are not recruiting military men, aren't you? I agree that a test is necessary... but bunalan? don't think so.

Well , FK you have a point there of how our leaders are . Just like how guys portray the big picture of how they made mistakes like pangwarta etc but how about the good things they also achieved ?? Its the same thing as the fraternities who you guys only criticized because of the violence whom no one wants but because of the flow of nature or bound to happen is really sad . I myself loss dear brods in these stupid war but , have you guys and gals even appreciated the good things the fraternites did ?? I know its chaotic comparable to a good Christian who for all his life did good deeds but before he died commited 1 sin , all those hard work of doing good deeds went nowhere .

FK - it is really hard to explain in details to let all the people here who have doubts unless u join 1 but I think thats is impossible . Just put it this way , FRATERNITIES been using the instrument ( PADDLE ) as a form of the physical test for 3 centuries now since PHI BETA KAPPA was founded in 1776 .

Im just curious FK where did you get ur stats about majority of the people have different reasons as mine on why join a fraternity . Was there an actual SURVEY on these ?? Enlighten me pls and more power to all you !!

as with most things, hazing has its advantages and disadvantages which has led most organizations to minimize or even do away with hazing. in contrary to the stereotypical knowledge regarding hazing, it is not confined to "beating up pledges or initiates". it can be in any form which requires the initiate to perform or participate in a task not always in favor of his free will.

as to the disadvantages, physical and psychological tests might be too much for the pledges to handle which may sometimes lead to injury or short term psychological problems. physical activities doesn't always require pain. it may be a test of strength, stamina, and ability.

hazing, in a way, plays an important role in the screening of members. thru it, and with a certain degree, a person's pride and ego can be tested. there are times when certain tasks are too much for the pride to handle. in an organization where people with different backgrounds gather, it would be so hard if most, if not everyone, would have shooting egos. if membership wasn't such a hard thing to go thru, how many of these delinquents would have multiplied? hazing is justified by the means and purpose it is enacted upon. quality is more important than quantity. a few good men could do the job well compared to a million gangsters.

quality men are of discipline, order, and respect. success is sweeter with pain and hardship.

again, there is nothing wrong with the institution (fraternity/sorority). it is the members that makes it bad.

springfield - never assume that because you have a 'noble' reason of joining a fraternity, that makes your whole family (frat brods/sor sis), noble too.

btw, you don't have to join one just because you want to serve the community. just being a good citizen of this country will do. if you want to serve the community, start by cleaning your ranks. this goes to all frat men and sor women.

NOBILITY CANNOT BE SEEN, IT IS IN YOUR HEART.

adding to evolution's post, starting from within one's self makes the big difference. with organizations being individuals with a common purpose and interest, effectiveness in achieving goals is seen in number. as the saying goes, "there is strength in number".

it is helping each other in achieving, it is leading by example, it is brotherhood.

EVOLUTION : I never assumed my memebrship becasue of the nobility , its the belongingness that I know where I stand and I know where is right . Thats why I ask earlier to give me facts and figures on how he came up with a figure that majority of fratmen specially AKRHO doesnt have the reasons , position in life and success , goals etc like I do . Guess what , I can give you right now names of very successful people who are full pledge members of AKRHO in all walks of life wether he is old , young , man or woman including me . I never said that because our existence as proffesional alumni's of AKRHO will cleanse the name of AKRHO itself if ever ..... if ever we did something wrong . Though we have programs to educate and help guide the brothers n sisters to the right path , if they wont follow us as guides , then thats an individuals decision and not the fraternities . Nobody is noble in this very close world , even those person who are not even members of any civic organizations or a mere club , how much more a growing 2nd family ??

We dont have time to clean ranks because as we all know we have been doing this for decades and we rather serve the community than to waste time . Correct me if im wrong , should ever ther is a BLACK SHEEP in ur family EVO , would you rather be just an example to him or her or keep him or her isolated , watched/monitored etc while the same time ur wasting ur time n his/her time ?? Oh yes we have been good citizens to these country for 3 decades now . How about you ??

i was once part of a fraternity. yes, i was. and being a gurl did not spare me from the somewhat brutal paddling. my chapter "leader" then was so strict. he never gave favors to the aspirants.

i'm no longer active. i quit after getting what i came for. i never regret the day when i joined and went through those numerous hours of "service" and attending meetings that required me to travel more than 10km from where i was staying back then. i found a friendship, a bond, a brotherhood/sisterhood that's way different from any kind of organization that the society would classify as "ethical". it was as if you had a wall to lean on, a hand to help you out in anything and an assurance that you'll never spend a lonely day. --at least that's how i saw it all....

let's just say the only reason why i had to quit is simply because i had a definite reason for joining anyway. and besides, even if i admire the way frat people show their dedication and loyalty for the group, and the cause they fought and struggled for, it just wasnt enough to compensate for the inconvenience the pressures back then gave me--me being a gurl and a composed and feminine one at that (really! anyone who saw me during some of the previous ebs could attest to that).... i even remember the time when i announced to my friend who got me in to the group that i was "interested in joining ***. his eyes popped out in disbelief.... hehehe...

but, the fratwars and the senseless rivalry between the fraternities and the irresponsible chapter leaders and the obviously confused and disturbed members of some fraternities would remain to be something that would taint the real and true essence and the purpose of joining them.

I just ask my friend/acquintances why they have joined such fraternities. Most of them cannot give a noble reason. Most of them is nadala lang sa barkada... now is that noble enough?
By the way, do you ask question why they like to join, to the person who want to join your group?

the paddle has always been a great symbol for greek-lettered fraternities. it symbolizes steering into the common goal and direction. it is also used in initiation rites and rituals, paddling to inflict pain or not. it is not only thru paddling with which physical tests are done. an initiate can be asked to perform other strength-draining physical activities. paddling is just one of the many activities involved with fraternal iniation rites and rituals. as earlier stated, justification depends on the purpose and means of how it is performed. anything in excess is destructive.

if you think your rights are violated if you get paddled, report it to the authorities. the Philippines has its Anti-Hazing bill in legislation. to add, there are a number of fraternities that have adopted this Anti-Hazing bill into their initiation process.
