Doctors in Philippines banned from smoking

interest of the country? What benefit would a couple of non smoking doctors do to benefit the country? do you think it will convince anyone NOT to smoke.

this has nothing to do with national interest it is more of discrimination why single out one sector of society?

I don't smoke but if people want to smoke let them smoke. Again, as long as it is not in public places because other people also have their right to their health.

discrimination diay na bai? i thought its just auto-regulation of an association.... this new regulation doesn't harm anyone, only stepping on individual rights... but then again their profession should demand the highest standards a healthcare provider can show.... ngil-ad sad tanawn anang doctor mu unay ug daut sa kaugalingon.... but anyways, the doctors who favor their vice more than their profession should just remove themselves from PMA.... but then again, i don't really give a damn....

It's not really singling out one sector and even discrimination
when you think about the issue. Personally, if doctors or someone
from the medical/health care area would smoke or even abuse one's
body, don't you think it's rather CONTRADICTING to what they
believe in or even preach to their patients?

They are supposed to promote wellness and not succumbing to one's
addiction.

A concrete example, I for one wouldn't go for a respiratory doctor for
my asthma ailment if I know he's a chain smoker. The idea just didn't sit well
for me.

But who are we to cramp on one's lifestyle, right?
The bottomline is, there shouldn't be any CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

agree on this. i quit smoking myself, doctors should be role models themselves.

but on the others side the medical community doesnt wants us to be healthy its bad for their industry ive heard doctors dying from lung cancer, heart attack etc cause of their unhealthy lifestyle I guess no one can dictate someone on their life.

correct. no one can dictate how someone should live their life. kung ang doctor wala'y pasyente kay ang tawo dili musalig niya kay siya manigarilyo then that is the consequence of his being a smoker. if he goes on to smoke because he'd rather smoke than have patients then iya sad na because that is his decision. Ma-o nay gitawag nga dako na man na siya. and he is free to decide...

and FYI associations like PMA, PNA and the like: you are required to join by law once you get your license in order to be able to practice your profession. dili ni ingon nga doctor ko pero dili lang ko mu-apil sa inyo. If you are not a member of PMA you cannot practice medicine in the philippines.

So, it's kind of "okay" stepping on invidual rights?? Although they have ethics to follow and all that jazz, however, there is what we called a CIVIL RIGHTS and they just can't mandate any laws like this.

Ok, let's say this turns out to be successful and every associations are following this law. But what's next?? All professionals are required to go to Church on Sundays to set a good examples to future professionals?? Think about how many atheist and agnostics will be offended by that. Hmmm ... Ooops, I forgot ... You don't give a damn.
