I think you can get a more accurate volume since its an odd shape by using the water displacement method.. it simple.. get a small bucket that the piece can fit on, fully fill it with water. then place the filled container over the bigger container. then place the metal on the water filled container. be sure to catch all the water that overflows, measure it using a measuring cup or a graduated cylinder if you have one.
Since we already know of the weight then we can get the density.
