then what is it expanding into.

What sort of manifold can contain everything.

What lies outside the box.

One theory that I understand about the end of the universe.
It may expand to the infinite space then it will come to a dark age where the stars run out of fuel. Only the most massive stars would survive like the black hole and even during that time black holes would run out of stars to consume so if these happen blackholes would eventually collapse as well with an explosion when it runs out of fuel.
In other words the universe would end in black nothingness.
