im glad that this country finally realizes the need for such equipment. i just hope that it wouldn't be tainted with corruption so that the govt can maximize its budget and get the best there is, not some second-hand crappy junk.

my rule of thumb: if you gonna spend, buy the best or never spend at all...

Why not buy a stationary spy satellite that can see through clouds, detect infrared heat at night so that we can see people on the ground. We can pinpoint the location of all NPA's and MILF or even ABU SAYAF and bomb them while they are asleep at night. The cost might even be cheaper than the 3.2 billion worth of helicopters. We can even send troops to the place where there is a concentration of rebels or terrorist activities. It is a proactive kind of military initiative.

The satellite doesn't need any maintenance but one thing for sure, we have the edge and the capability to engage them whenever we want. We don't need a lot of sophisticated military hardware, what we need are smart military minds that won't cost us a lot in a long run. If we use technology to our advantage, it is easy for us to identify them since they don't have that capability to own one.

mahal kaau ang satellite oi.. they cost over 300M$ plus ang launching pa lang will cost 50M$-400M$ naa pay chance mo-crash. kailangan pa gyud ground infrastructure to control the satellite.

these helicopters cost less than 70M$ (3.2B pesos) not 3.2B$ lol, i think bargain na kaau considering pwede bya ning sa rescue operations kung mag bagyo etc.

ang ground station kailangan ug maintainance (kurinti ug space for receiving equipments) plus kailangan pud ug mga special personnel (mahal talent fee) para mo maintain (remote) ug monitor sa satelite.
