Malacañang vows to follow ‘trail of evil’ of Michael Ray Aquino
Malacañang yesterday vowed to follow the "trail of evil" revealed by confessed spy Michael Ray Aquino until the true perpetrators of the foiled destabilization plot are unmasked and brought to justice.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said Aquino who pleaded guilty to espionage in the United States was just a "fall guy" for the "real agents of evil" who planned to topple the Arroyo government.
"In admitting his guilt, Mr. Aquino has virtually confirmed the dark plan staged by his bosses in the opposition to destabilize and undermine our democratic system by foul means, including spying on our foremost ally in the world," he said in a statement.
"We welcome the fact that justice has been served but it is clear that Mr. Aquino is just a sacrificial lamb and a fall guy for the real agents of evil that planned out an aborted conspiracy against the Filipino people. The Philippine government will follow this trail of evil to the end," he added.
Bunye said Aquino, a former police officer, must divulge all details of the botched conspiracy to bring down the government should Washington deports him to Manila.
"While we leave to the US justice system the penalties that would be imposed on Mr. Aquino, we assure the Filipino people that he will still have a lot of explaining to do should he be deported back to the Philippines," he said.
In the hope of getting a lighter sentence from a US court, Aquino has admitted receiving US classified documents from a Filipino American intelligence officer, Leandro Aragoncillo. The stolen documents were allegedly used by certain opposition politicians to try to oust President Arroyo.
The confession of Aquino has emboldened Malacañang to consider the filing of criminal charges against his conspirators in the Philippines.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita yesterday said the Department of Justice would study the possible violations of the "indictable co-conspirators" of Aquino in the laws of the Philippines.
Ermita, based on his conversations with Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, said Aquino and the coconspirators may be held liable for violation of sections 4F and G of Republic Act 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
Section 4F says that "they shall endeavor to maintain Philippine sovereignty and defend it against foreign intrusion," while Section 4G states the "commitment to democracy" by these officials and "at all time uphold the Constitution."
For now, Ermita said the government is closely monitoring the espionage case filed by the US government against Aquino and would await its resolution.
US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney maintained the relations between the Philippines and the United States remain "strong and robust" and would not be affected by the espionage cases of Aragoncillo and Aquino

Amnesty program for Reds unveiled
PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday offered amnesty to New People’s Army rebels who are willing to surrender as part of a “left-handed” approach to ending the communist insurgency.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the program of reconciliation—a far cry from the government’s “all-out war” policy—sought to encourage more rebels to return to the fold of the law.
Even Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz Jr. had dropped the term “all-out-war” in referring to the government’s three-year timetable for crushing the insurgency.
“We do not use that term anymore,” Cruz said.

Amnesty program for Reds
mura always man ning amnesty, basta naa mu surrender na rebel even MILF naa man dayun offer na amnesty, basta proper negotiation lang![]()
^^ This would be a better alternative for our NPA rebels. Rather than fight for what may seem a lost soul since they are in the midst of a group known as the enemy of the State, maybe they should seek for the amnesty program of the government.
The government is giving them another chance to go back to the right path.
