1.) Is UNIX and LINUX the same?
Nope. Unix originated from AT&T. There's a long story (and lawsuits) behind it. To cut the story short, Unix can be thought of as a set of specification for an OS. Real Unix systems include FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, and etc. Theses OSes have been implemented by computer scientists long before we were born.

Linux is a relatively new OS which is a copycat of Minix. It's not as mature and stable as real Unix systems, but it became more popular because it wasn't burdened with lawsuits in the early 90s, a critical time where the open source movement was still gaining momentum.

2.)Is Linux an operating system? or it is only a kernel(which is the central component of the operating system) then what is the operating system called?
Stallman started the GNU Project. The project already implemented various utilities, but they didn't have a working kernel yet. Linus has a working kernel, but he didn't have utilities to make his kernel useful. So what he did was he copied GNU's work in order to create Linux.

Stallman, to this day, resents Linux' popularity because he felt (and rightly so) that credit is not given to where it's due. He insists on calling the OS as GNU/Linux.

Ang akoa lang, naghatag lang ko niya ug options besides sa linux (nga naa sad BSD) and so far sa akoa lang na-test stable baya ang GUI sa FreeBSD ug NetBSD so pwede ra magamit for newbies. Naa sad sya live CD for live testing.

if sa imong paminaw nagpabilib ko, then imoha na sad na kay on my part i'm just giving him informations ug links para niya mabasa ang akoang nabasa. Someone is asking questions, so atoa lang sad tabangan or at least give some pointers.

Para sa TS dili man tingali concern sa iyaha ang linux installation basta naa lang sya platform for web development niya that's why sa earlier part sa thread nag-suggest sad ko niya ug WAMP (Windows+Apache+MySQL+PHP) para less problema na sa iyaha.
Got your point.. sensya for being mean, peace bro.

@TS, of you're into web development, pwede lng man gamit ka tools for Windows as what maleman suggested, WAMP or XAMP. Having a live box is good for a broader experience but then sa imoha situation, medyo mahug jd nga complicated kay medyo la pa kaau ka idea.. pero i guess that should not imped you if u really opt to try and learn.. go ahead and setup ug box nimo.. for sure, it'll help you a lot..
