the tech guy was right and his explanation was spot on. well, hub or switch if you're only connecting a few computers then it wouldn't really matter. i would probably say, 10-15 pcs doesn't make a difference if you're using a switch or a hub unless you're moving large files all the time. save your money and keep your old hub/switch hub (whatever you call it) and spend your money on different things as you'll not gain any significant performance upgrade from that new switch

i would agree on alexno7, if you want configurable/controlled network (and all that sweet crap) go for managed switches like Cisco, kung makaya sa bulsa. otherwise. go for the affordable ones if you just want basic functionality.

freeza. the price difference is in the brandnames and some other minor stuff. performance wise(grabe ka mahal like 3com and cisco), they are practically the same.

hubs are so ancient history. computer stores now sell switches.

depending on your budget, you can go low-end like Surecoms. works for me. been using it for 4 yrs na and no complains about it. just make sure it gets proper cooling and ventilation.
