China condemns RP flag over hostage-taker’s coffin - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos

MANILA, Philippines—China on Friday condemned the fact that a Philippine flag was draped over the coffin of hostage-taker police captain Rolando Mendoza.

In a statement e-mailed to media outfits, the Chinese embassy here noted the apparent honor accorded to Mendoza with this act.

“Television reports showed that that Rolando Mendoza, the cold-blooded hostage-taker, was laid in his house in a coffin draped in the Philippine national flag. The Chinese embassy in the Philippines condemns the brutality of the criminal and expresses its strong indignation over this irritating act,” the statement said.

“The person who deserves a national flag at funeral should be someone of heroism, decency, and integrity, not someone who inflicts atrocity on innocent lives. This is nothing but a smear on the dignity of the Philippine national flag,” it added.

Monday’s hostage-taking took the life of eight tourists from Hong Kong. Together with the ensuing police and diplomatic blunders, it has created a rift in the bi|ateral relations between the two countries.

we cant blame if member of the family is putting phil flag on top of his coffin. for them, its a traditional for a service man to have a flag in a funeral. but because of what he has done resulting to a conflict between two nations, they should think about it twice before doing so. the hostage taker's wake is not a private one this time. the eyes of t he media is focusing on them. just my two cents.
