I dont intend to be a thread crasher or anything pero I am a member of the WCSP (Wildlife Conservation Society of the Philippines) and a pioneering member of the ZAP (Zookeepers Assosciation of the Philippines) and in so far as we are concerned only NFEFI -BCC (Negros Forest Ecological Foundation Inc _Biodiversity Conservation Center) and might be Avilon zoo have successfully captive bred Tarictic hornbills and in so far both institutions have never sold any of their progenies but have rather sent it to Germany under the GTZ- German Technical Corporation for further breeding abroad. You would need to have a farm permit to sell these progenies. The reason why these birds are so difficult to breed is due to the more than two years of bonding between pairs before actual mating takes place, the pairs bond for life and for the poachers to be able to get fledglings such as these, the parents are likely killed as they would never leave their chicks. They defend the nests with their lives almost against anything. During breeding, the male locks the female in a wood cavity (natural cavities or holes sequestered from woodpeckers) and collects food to feed the hen and if ever the newly hatched chicks. If ever the father gets killed or poached, the whole family dies as the hen will never leave the nest not until the time is ripe for her to leave. I sympathize the plight of these poor and highly misunderstood creatures, but more so i dont understand why this thread still continues inspite of the earlier posts i've made. This will be my last post on this thread, i hope the moderators will find things accordingly
