Whirlwind hits Cebu town

tornadoes and waterspouts (tornadoes over water) seem to be
a regular occurrence in the philippines whether climate change or not.
they are locally known as buhawi

my wife remembers when she was living in parañaque, quezon
she was playing with her brothers outside when they saw a big
dark thing coming out of the clouds... looked almost exactly
like in the movie twister... it funneled and then touched down
but only lasted a minute or less before dying.

they went inside in time as their house shook starting from
one end to the other as a smaller twister formed and passed by.
a big boom was heard next and they saw their chicken coop spin
up into the air. all the while hearing hail pelt their rooftop.

this was when she was 10 years old... around 1986 or so.

my guess is people are just more aware of it now as it's
better documented with nearly everyone having camera phones
or digital point&shoots...

to occur here around july.
