Most people who will watch this will barely understand the movie. Even the intellectuals wont understand the most of it. What the movie wants to tell you is:

The feeling I get when I think about that is close to what I am feeling now. Like waking up to a dream and then realizing you're still in it.
    Like Kubrick said long ago:
You're free to speculate as you wish about the philosophical and allegorical meaning of the film — and such speculation is one indication that it has succeeded in gripping the audience at a deep level — but I don't want to spell out a verbal road map for 2001 that every viewer will feel obligated to pursue or else fear he's missed the point.
The movie is highly praised because back the day it was released, it was praised for scientific accuracy, special effects and introduced the most understandable concept of space odysseys. But right now it can't be that much understood considering that we are almost aware of the concepts introduced there - the wow factor is eliminated.

The part near the ending is the most hypnotic part of the movie. It's like the empty dull parts before that scene was filled in. Then there I have appreciated it. I've watched it when I was 10 years old, it wasn't really appealing to me but I've finished it and I liked it when I grew older. This is one of the movies I would show to my children when they're still young, because it would definitely make them curious what it is and what it wants to tell us.

PS: Kubrick is awesome man. I loved Dr. Strangelove and FMJ.

Yes, I think you are right. At first I was very keen jud na ma figure out what the movie was about. Basin ra sad kay grabe kaayu pagkarecommend sa ako. I don't think there is a concrete meaning jud as to what Kubrick meant by it. I like it that he lets people make their own conclusions. As for me though, its not about the meaning but the feelings evoked while watching the film. During it I wasnt sure if I liked the experience I was getting at, as I said I got scared. I like the last part and I have to admit that during the first half I didnt know if I could finish the movie or not. It was a bizarre experience and as for me that isn't a hard core movie-goer, it was something new. The hype is still here.

I dont agree though that the wow actor is lessen cos of more hi-tech advancement in newer sci-fi movies. Amazing ang mga movies karon like katong Avatar but still I was watching it as a third person. I felt amazed but the feeling of safety was there. 2001 evoked something deeper but which I really can't explain. Siguro one thing I would say na lang 'ang wa pa kita nya nahan mutanaw, tanawa na lng'. Pero nuon sad, basin ang uban di ganahan depende lang sa taste

Nakakita na gyud tawn kog INCEPTION. Nya nakahinumdum ko ani na thread because of that striking scene sa movie.

    SPOILERS:

There was a scene towards the end of the film where Fischer (Cillian Murphy) enters the vault and finds his father (Postlethwaite) on his deathbed. It was so much built to imitate that scene in 2001 where Dr. Dave Bowman, after traveling dimension, space and time, ends up in that luminous white room where he eventually lays on the bed, aging.

Mao sigurong gi compare ang Inception sa 2001. But I reckon, besides that wala may laing similarities, especially sa attention to details.

Ang problema man gud sa mga salida ni Nolan is that he doesn't allow enough time for the viewers to mull a scene over. Mga an hour into the movie, kahilakon ko. Kay bati gyud kaayo. Boring. Hehehe. Paspas kunuhay ang pacing pero boring. It was very apparent that the filmmaker was desperate to get his lessons on dreams across via Cobb training Ariadne through didacticism. But when the different levels of dreams kicked in, at least it re-ignited the movie's momentum and it became interesting. Though daghan gihapon mga issues like characters and situations plus HUGE problems on RULES. But whatever. At least nindot ang IMAX. hehehe

And it was funny coz this movie was for me very similar to Shutter Island (cast, character, soundtrack). Which I thought was better than this. And it was also similar to The Ghost Writer (character, nya mood and tone). Among the three, pinakanindot ang The Ghost Writer. Excellently directed gyud. Then next ang Shutter Island. Last lang ni. hehehe.

So I recommend you see Inception. Kay although di sya perfect movie, like Nolan's other films, it somehow incites discussion and thinking over. He has this skill in trying to showcase his "great mind" but it just seems he doesn't allow enough time to distill his ideas.

But I also highly recommend you watch Shutter Island (Scorsese) and The Ghost Writer (Polanski) if you haven't seen them kay they are for me the best of the year, so far.

I beg to disagree that this movie will not be understood. And just because we have a "higher" understanding of space cosmology doesn't mean we will not be able to understand, much less appreciate this film, because the "wow factor" is eliminated (?) Just my opinion.

And I would discourage anyone to show this to children though. hehehe.
