what specific driver versions u were using...
this could be compatibility issues. newer hardware+new os+ old dx8 games = trouble... but i think naa ni workaround tru different drivers.

I guess those DX8 games are no longer supported in the current drivers.
Your solution maybe is upgrade your game titles...
You can start with Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, BFBC2, Metro 2033, ahem and etc.
