You guys are missing the point here;
Software engineering DOES NOT only involves CODING/PROGRAMMING, software engineering as any other engineering involves many tasks;
-requirements gathering
-planning,
-analysis,
-design of architecture both High Level and Low level,
-implementation
-testing in various form(unit, system, integration,etc),
-measurement and metrics
-monitoring and control
Programming is just a part of software engineering. For a proper and correct software project programming is just 20% of the overall software DEVELOPMENT, THEREFORE
Point1; Why is it higher positions such as project leaders and or software architect are commonly known as software engineer?
- Because they work more on the planning, analysis , monitoring and control rather than PROGRAMMERS who only do coding and unit testing.
Point2:
Pick a book or a tutorial with a topic of "Software Engineering", what can you observed?
-It is NOT a PROGRAMMING book/tutorial.
Point3: Mostly ang maglibog ani na topic kay ang mga college students or fresh graduate its because studyante pa ta EAGER na kaayu ta mo code, murag ang tanan nato hulaton sa atung CS or IT class kay ang implementation lang, I admit it bisag ako sa una boringan ko anang mga SAD or SoftEng na klasc.
Point4;
Know your job description not just the title;
If your company gives you the position of "Programmer" then maybe your company Has senior employee or maybe your leader that does the design,planning, monitoring, etc. BUT if your company gives you the position "Software Engineer" or even "Jr Software Engineer " then the company EXPECTS that you learn even the BASICS of software engineering discipline because you might GET PROMOTED to higher positions later. Most company that uses "Software Engineer" as title does not have format hierarchy one such example is;
the person doing the design is the one implementing the design.
pasensya na mo sa akng taas ug post daghan kog na inum na kape karn after gatagay mi.. hehehe

the difference is as subtle or as distinct as you want it to be. my way of saying, "it's all in your head".
this has been discussed here and here. take anything from there that will make you feel good about yourself and your job and then forget about it
if you're currently in a company that makes such a distinction, well tilt your head up to the heavens and sing praises to whoever it is that you sing praises to, that such a company exists in pinas.
as an exercise, please take a look at these recent jobs postings. if you can spot the difference in relation to the topic on hand then you are probably a much more discerning individual than most, learned and wise.

don't get too hung up on titles. this here guy called himself a humble programmer. my wish is that one day we would be worthy of such a title.
