Once, my cousin talked to me about the Magdalo, when he cannot understand before the reason of the mutiny, he was still inside the PMA at that time. When he graduated and do his job in Kalinga Apayao, he was shocked when the right that he was told in the PMA became wrong in the outside, and the wrong became right. And now, he understands why the Magdalo did the mutiny.

For me, ROTC is a training to let the citizens be prepared in case of invasion.
what you described is essentially what the military has become after it has it has tasted and has become secretly addicted to political power. when the military becomes a force that competes instead of being subservient to civil rule, this (and worse things) become the consequence.

ROTC, despite everything they say that it is, is a means to augment and satiate that addiction.

an insightful article by Raul Pangalangan of PDI

    Mandatory ROTC? Remember Mark Chua

... the ROTC fostered the wrong values. As an anti-ROTC manifesto said, it “instilled the sub-culture of fear, violence and hatred among the broad ranks of the students.”

I think ROTC is still being offered, but i think they dont have that many enrollees compared to the other programs. They are pushing for this since they are losing cadets, the way i see it the AFP is such a CRY BABY on this issue. They should come up with creative ways to attract more enrollees, instead of insisting that they should prevail. They should learn use their brains for once. I guess that is not taught in the AFP/ROTC.
