At issue: a 19th-century building and whether it can be designated a landmark. If it is designated a landmark, the original building will remain. If not, American Muslim groups will tear it down and move ahead with plans to build an inter-faith community center and mosque.
The condition is IF it is NOT a landmark. If they have legal right to do so wala ta mahimo. No amount of whining is going to change that.

    And again:
"I'm ashamed to be an American today," said Rakif Gathwari, a Muslim-American, who reminded the crowd that people from many countries and religions died on September 11.
This reaction is not about a muslim mosque being put there. It's about their pride being insulted and this reaction is obviously not an objective reaction. They are thinking with their hearts not their heads.

Hmm.... here's an (update?) or the source?

Panel denies landmark status for Islamic center and mosque site near ground zero – Religion - CNN.com Blogs

It appears bai all this drama is nothing more than an exaggeration. "near" ground zero man lagi naka sulat diri. Nothing in the article says anything about it being IN ground zero (i'm not saying ikaw ni ingon). I don't see anything wrong with it -again. And again, this is purely prejudice and nothing more.

you think muslims will be thinking with their heads if christians/jews decide to build a church/synagogue in one of their sacred sites or even just the mere hint of it.
you probably heard of what happened when a western cartoonist drew a caricature of mohammad. and a number of authors who've had fatwa issued on them for writing about their prophet in a less than complimentary manner.
yeah... so much for a "religion of peace and tolerance".
you think this is about pride and objectivity?
are you even an american? or one of the haters?
did you have a loved one die in one of those attacks?

why would it be a slap? a mosque is a mosque. a sacred place for muslim. and as stated earlier, the us is a multicultural country so, yeah, i think its perfectly ok, unless your a muslim hater. or worse, an ignorant who thinks its the us vs the muslims. just my 10 pesos

lol i would bet my testes that if a church for the christians will be built on ground zero, there would be less outrage or even none and people would just shrug their shoulders off. stop the hate

you think muslims will be thinking with their heads if christians/jews decide to build a church/synagogue in one of their sacred sites or even just the mere hint of it. - Again, muslim countries are not tolerant to Christian presence. They do not have countries like the Phils or US that are DEMOCRATIC. Do not compare their places to NY. This is unfair on our part but what can you do? Wage ware on their land?

you probably heard of what happened when a western cartoonist drew a caricature of mohammad. and a number of authors who've had fatwa issued on them for writing about their prophet in a less than complimentary manner. - Because Muslim law prohibits depiction of Mohammed in any manner or form. Seriously, do we even know what he looks like? Whereas it is NOT illegal to draw Jesus or impersonate him as an actor.
yeah... so much for a "religion of peace and tolerance".
you think this is about pride and objectivity? So you're implying we stoop to that level then?
are you even an american? or one of the haters? Oh, I wasn't aware this poll or this discussion was directed at American members. You should have posted it in an american forum then NOT a Cebuano forum.
did you have a loved one die in one of those attacks? Don't play the guilt trip card on me! Would it satisfy you to know that even if I knowingly knew someone who died in 9/11 I wouldn't fret about Muslims building a Mosque nearby. If they built it ON ground zero. Maybe.

    ^^^

Kana if the MOSQUE is to be BUILT @ GROUND ZERO pero I doubt if mahitabo na .

Say for example , ang FUENTE OSMENA mao ang ground zero , nothing is wrong for me kung naay MOSQUE mo barog somewhere sa LARSIAN are but then LARSIAN area is still considered FUNETE OSMENA vicitnity right ? UNless sulod sa rotunda i tukod ang mosque then that i wrong .

    This just in:

Feisal Abdul Rauf, the Imam Behind the 'Ground Zero Mosque' - Yahoo! News

Mainit na balita. Wala pako kabasa. Just saw it ako home page.

The last legal hurdle to the proposed Islamic center near the site of the World Trade Center has been removed, but ignorance, bigotry and politics are more formidable obstacles. -- Bobby Ghosh
