Check out RUNNERS WORLD website. They offer lots of advice/tips/precautions and they even have training programs which you can follow, depending on your goals and level of fitness.

First of all, if you think you have a family history of cardiovascular disease, you may want to consult with your doctor before undertaking vigorous exercises. If not, hey, get the right pair of shoes, hit the road and join the craze. Mind you, running is a high risk-high reward sport. It is just the best exercise when it comes to losing weight and increasing fitness level. Plus, you might get the "runner's high" as a bonus...perhaps from inhaling too much pollution

first more than anything else, there should be commitment.
one of the hardest part in running is going out of the from door at 5AM. even seasoned runners experience this.
start walking 3X a week, after a month you can do a walk-jog intervals
you'll be surprised that in time you can do 10 laps in abellana...
check also your running form..upright, sights on the horizon and avoid landing on the heel
also invest in a good pair of running shoes. do a gait analysis to know the pronation of your feet
    hope this helps

Running form is important to avoid injuries. Since you said you are a newbie in running, wala pa siguro ma corrupt imong form.
I would suggest you buy the book Chi Running. Naay baligya sa Runnr or sa Amazon.
I have been injured numerous times because of my bad running form, and Chirunning really worked for me. Karon buyag lang nawala na tanan injuries.
I'm not an expert ha, just an average runner...
