@ raptor......gun ownership, shooting, IS EXPENSIVE..and that is the unfortunate REALITY... and I would not suggest it to anyone IF FINANCES IS AN ISSUE.

BUT, there are ways to make it less EXPENSIVE..(note the word EXPENSIVE ha, it will keep coming back). This is my humble tip for your cousin?

    Example,
    1. buy a gun that can be used for both sports and home defense first....BUY A BACK-UP GUN LATER.
    2. dont be fooled with the exotic design and the ones we see in the movies....buy the functional.
    3. if enrolling in formal gun safety lessons is costly, join, orientations REGULARLY
    4. it is true, that a small gun is better than no gun at all, but if it is your first gun, buy the regular size. Note: Very few small guns are cheap anyway...
    5. join a gunclub. choose the reasonably priced clubs like N.S and KAMAGONG, they dont charge monthly dues. and make use of your membership, join in competitions at least once a month.
please, in my own opinion,DONT BUY A GUN IF YOU DONT INTEND TO PRACTICE WITH IT FOR AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH.

now let us put all of the above in an EXPENSE MATRIX - just to illustrate what I am talking about.
    Initial Investment:
    Gun 9mm 15 shots...Tanfoglio/Armscor ...........P 25,000.00
    License........................................... ..........P 7,000.00
    Gun Club Membership ..................................P 4,000.00
    200 rounds brand new ammo......x 15/round P 3,000.00
    Ammo Box 100 x 2 pieces ............................P 200.00
    Eye Protector ...........................................P 200.00
    Ear Protector......................................... ....P 150.00
Daily Carry Gear (nylon holster and magpouch) P 500.00
    Total Initial Investment ....................... P 40,050

    Cost to practice/familiarize per month:
    Reload 6 pesos x 200 rounds P 1,200.00
    Target Boards 15 x 3 pieces 45.00
    Pulot boy 100.00
Total cost to practice at least once a month P 1,345.00

Now, if you intend to practice while joining a competition once a month... add..P 600 (normal registration fee for tournament and P55.00 for mineral water and pulot. So you will be spending an approximate of P 2,000 PER MONTH TO PRACTICE,FAMILIARIZE, ENJOY THRU COMPETITION- your gun.

Now, is the P 2,000 a month better intended for Mall suroy-suroy with family? is the P2,000 better intended for light and water bills? is the 2,000 a month better intended for a two week fuel budget?
is the P 2,000 a month better intended to buy a maintenance medicine? is the P 2,000 a month better intended to pay the TUTOR, or Yaya or househelp of our kids? is the P 2,000 a month better intended for grocery? IF ALL OF THE ABOVE IS WHAT YOU FEEL, then in my own opinion, dont buy a gun in the first place....

BUT, if the P 2,000 a month contributes to : TOTAL RELAXATION- FATHER'S DAY OUT ON THE RANGE- a relaxation that de-stresses the padre de pamilya of the worries and pressures of working hard for the family, better decision making, better analytical appreciation of the trials of work, family life and being a good husband and father in general.... then, I guess, even multiplying 2,000 a month 10 times in a single month is all worth it owning a gun.

and that ladies and gentlemen is my own opinion only ha.

@ higanstoldawen.............................Shooter s are coming up with good-looking products, stress ha ang good looking. I dont know the performance....but I guess, they are better than nothing...

To All Istoryans...the souvenir shirts sold at CPRA for the CEBU IDPA REGIONALS are very beautiful at P 500 only. Join the shoot and be proud to buy and own a souvenir shirt...dont just buy for souvenir shirt unya wala diay ka tira...

@ daddie, ....yes you may buy souvenir shirts....but unfortunately, there is an unwritten law among shooters....."they frown on people buying souvenir shooting shirts and NOT having shot in that particular tournament.".....murag something like this....you dont deserve a souvenir shooting shirt on a shoot you dont have to have any souvenir of thought-memory of. in others words, it is not just a question of "it is your money..so walay paki alam ang kalibutan no?" rather, you have to earn the privilege to buy a SOUVENIR- shooting shirt.

unless of course, ang tournament is outside the Philippines, everybody wants to have a souvenir shirt-whether you have shot it or not.

now, before I get to be misunderstood as the above statement as coming in as a snob or arrogant...we are talking about a SOUVENIR shooting shirt of a particular tournament ha? not just any other Shooting shirt..which we order from the gunstores, forums or e-bay.

why is this important? when people see you wearing it, and if by chance they will ask- "uy, naka tira diay ka ato nga shoot bai?" mo answer ta, walay pre, palit lang ko souvenir shirt...
