    extra advice lang,

normster teaches brazilian jiu jitsu at loft and baseline.

if you really want to learn AND get a good exercise (without spending thousands on mats, i know I spent a lot back in the day) train in loft or baseline, theres a free tryout session as far as i know(but you gotta ask him first)

a few years ago (back when there was no where else to go) I spent close to 10K just on mats and padded walls. gasto kaayo bai. hehehheeh.

and by the way here is what i discovered over my years of training....
"the only way to improve your grappling is to actually train with grapplers better than you"

    -just a friendly advice hehehehe..
Now I rarely train(too much work) and my mats are just lying on the ground.

Hi bai, i'm not trying to advertise or anything... so i hope you don't take it the wrong way... My advice to you is always to seek out a structured class in grappling. There are a lot of reasons and you can learn things of the net, but there are things that cannot be explained without a proper instructor. One major concern is safety. For example, cranks and leglocks are not allowed for beginners(and by beginners i mean people who have been doing it for 2 years or less). The reason is that once you get injured by either a crank or a leglock your day is ****ed up!(and trust me it will happen a lot) On the other hand, you pop your elbow or shoulder, you can still walk, go about doing everything. I hope you understand, i'm not trying to discourage you, but all that comes from years of experience in the grappling scene, particularly BJJ.

Normster is actually right. Injuries will be a major part of your grappling life especially if you "backyard grappling" (as i call it).

im also not trying to advertise "deftac" norman is my friend but my advice is still unbiased...

if you want to improve exponentially over a short span of time, with significantly less injuries than "backyard grappling" then my advice would be to train in a real class environment with structured training(sure you can learn from the net and videos and books, as I did once, but nothing beats a real live instructor), and a fixed class schedule (not the "next time nalang ta train bai kay busy ko etc.. alibi") and from a real BJJ instructor(the normster) trained by many great instructors(both here and abroad, as far as I know).

with all that said let me give you a general idea of other available locations.

Deftac Cebu - probably the best (and only choice) for BJJ in cebu, team has good BJJ record (locally and in the asian regions as i recall) and also has good MMA record in URCC (i cant recall the exact details). Located in LOFT IT park and baseline (is there a third location norms?) Deftac Cebu - Gracie Barra Jiujitsu

SelDef - i think is in lapu lapu(?) i think run by the bullos brothers (carry "the prince" bullos?) also does MMA and grappling (i guess). Bullos i believe has a good mma record, cant say too much as i dont really watch mma events and tournaments a lot.

Comjiukai - i think is located in urgello, they also do Grappling and MMA, and also has participated in the both BJJ/MMA scene locally/nationally and I heard they did well (never saw the fight, no budget to go to manila to watch). instructor is Jerome

all those other other gyms that you hear on the mma shows etc... dont know their exact details.. CMAC, DUREX DRAGONS, YAWYAN, ARCOMJUKAI, etc etc.... sorry wa ko kahibaw sa details ani na mga gyms....

    * i dont know any location near consolacion sorry.

... visit them and see what they can offer, take a look at their facilities, their rates, their training schedules, the class environment, etc...

*note that I do not train under norman (wish i did, pero trabaho naman gud, hehehe)
*i practice (sometimes maybe once a week) sa USC main but Judo na, (its the closest one to BJJ and duol ra pod sa amo-a).. compromise nalang ko .. hehehe

*another note, Brazilian Jiujitsu is NOT the same as Grappling, and no one else can claim to teach BJJ here (as far as I know) except Deftac, Grappling on the other hand is being taught by many gyms around cebu. USC judo does not teach BJJ but has "newaza" (ground work) as part of their game.
*im not a blackbelt, I love the Gi, and im not really good at it, i just love to spar
*my mats and rubber paddings are glued to the floor and walls, so i cant sell it (sayang lagi). I would offer my place to you for training pero di pod ko ka atiman kay naa man gud sa sulod sa "balay" pasensya na. those who have practiced here years ago are now training in much better locations... loft, baseline, usc main, sel-def and comjiukai, some also have laid low(work, married, busy, larga, etc etc.)

oks... enough of the lengthy reply..

have fun guys and keep on rolling!!!!
*TAKE NOTE, i'm not better than you jomark, mas naka una lang siguro mi ug sugod (indie grappling ra ghapon mi sauna)
