Right. Rosal Cottage. Sige mi didto kay Narranian man ko sauna and we had a "brother/sister cottage" thing back then. When I was in Ipil adto sad mi tambay sa AzCot. Pinakasipat sa among sister dorms is Sampaguita.

Walking from Doltz to Carson the first few times was pretty tricky (samot na kung noon break or hapon) kay ang mga pating sa Larena Hall magtambay sa bintana sa ilang mga rooms singgitan ka ug "Hi gwapo!!", "Regards ko anang galakaw!!". hehehe and we're talking 3 floors worth of chicks na ga-kantyaw nimo. Maglisud kag lakaw oi. Mapandul ka usahay.

One time I was walking with a friend and we were both newbies. Kebaw na mi sa kantyaw sa Larena ladies pero we had to go meet someone at Carson so we had no choice. Paglapas pa lang namo sa fence sa Doltz sugod na ang sitsit... tsk tsk grabe. Halfway down the road some chick from 3rd floor shouts "Regards ko anang ga-yellow!!!" (my friend was wearing a bright yellow polo shirt that time). Ana dayon ko, "Ah, hayahaya nimo, part. Daghan man diay kag fans dri. Ngiga nimo oi". He smiled and looked up, expecting to see someone he knew.

Then the chick shouts "... kanang ga-yellow ang tango*!!" ... bungkag pangatawa ang ubang mga tsiks sa ubang floors oi. Kayasa.

    hehehe

    Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium

The Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium, the largest fully-functioning theater outside of Metro Manila, was built in 1973 and completed in 1975 at a cost of P4.4 million from funds provided mainly by the Henry Luce Foundation, Inc. of New York.

Counterpart funding was raised by Silliman University through its alumni, faculty, staff, student body, business community, and from friends here in the Philippines and abroad. The balance was donated by the United Presbyterian Commissions, with significant help from the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia based in New York City.

The Luce Auditorium was formally inaugurated on the 6th day of October, 1974 with ceremonies dedicating the facility to the memory of Claire Isabel McGill Luce (1923-1971), wife of Henry Luce III, President of the Henry Luce Foundation, Inc.

Silliman University’s vision for the Luce is for this world-class facility to continue serving the academic community and the country in the best possible way.

In 2008, the Luce Foundation provided additional funds to refurbish the Auditorium, updating its facilities to meet the strictest standards in theater. Work on the premises was completed in July 2008.

Its regular student audience sits rapt with cultural shows

The University works to maintain and preserve the Luce Auditorium as a center for Culture and Arts in the Central Visayas region, and to continuously cultivate and promote the passion of theatre, music, dance, and other forms of art expression among the students of the university as well as the larger community.

Acclaimed Rondalla Groups Invade Silliman 48th Cultural Season

Two rondalla groups will perform in a rare full day of rondalla performances at Silliman University’s Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium. The acclaimed Celso Espejo Rondalla and the La Libertad Children’s Rondalla are slated to do back-to-back performances on 17 July 2010, Saturday.

The Celso Espejo Rondalla, who will give a matinee performance at 3 PM and a gala performance at 8 PM, is composed of two generations of outstanding rondalla players: the senior members are professionals in their chosen fields while the younger ones are college students. The members were winners in the National Music Competitions for the Young Artists (NAMCYA), either as a solo instrumentalist or members of rondalla ensembles.

The group, named after Maestro Celso Espejo, the group’s conductor and one of the pillars of the Philippine Rondalla, was one of the performers in Cuerdas nin Cagabsan: The 1st International Rondalla Festival in Naga and Legazpi Cities, where they made an outstanding performance of light classics and contemporary Filipino compositions for rondalla. It was also one of the crowd favorites in Cuerdas Sa Panaghiusa: The 2nd International Rondalla Festival in Dumaguete.

The La Libertad Children’s Rondalla, on the other hand, will perform twice in the morning, at 8:30 and 10 A.M. This show is part of the Silliman University Cultural Affairs Committee’s outreach program, with this show designed specifically for children.

A fast-rising cultural act from the municipality of La Libertad, the group started when the town became a recipient of a set of rondalla instruments donated by the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental through Board Member Mariant E. Villegas. Then La Libertad Mayor Jocelyn Sy-Limkaichong, now the First District Representative of Negros Oriental, initiated the rondalla training program when she invited Mr. Ian Encarnacion, a voice major in Silliman University and a member of Kwerdas de Negros, to initiate a musical group in the town of La Libertad. The move sprang from Rep. Limkaichong’s vision to preserve local culture and revive an interest in Filipiniana.

Most of the members of the group are elementary school children, from grade four to five of Pio Banogon Elementary School.

Tickets for the Celso Espejo Rondalla Concert are available at P200 for the matinee and P300 for the gala show. Tickets for the La Libertad Children’s Rondalla are available at P100. For inquiries, please call (035) 422-6002 LOC. 520 or 09173235953.
