Based on the posts that I've been reading here's the rank of the more popular dermatologists:
    1. Dr. Verallo
    2. Dr. Ong
    3. Dr. Bernad

I haven't tried Verallo and Ong. I'm Dr. Bernad's loyal patient but recently, because my acne has flared up, our usual regimen is no longer effective. I used to have only an occasional pimple up to 5 the maximum at a time. But recently, due to my medication ( for my medical condition ), my acne has really gotten worse and I get zits ( too many to count ) on my forehead
( which never happens to me ), cheeks, and chin ( which really rarely happened before ).

Since I no longer want to undergo a painful facial with pimple pricking every time I go for a consult. And although I've seen results with her before, I have to admit that it's time to get a second opinion.

I don't believe that pricking the pimples is a solution to acne. Firstly, it's very painful. Secondly, the zits get infected or gets worse after pricking. Thirdly, it leaves scarring, scabbing and red spots.

I'm now trying out a doctor who will not prick pimples. I've heard that Dr. Canete ( of Cebu Doc ) doesn't advocate pimple pricking. I'm going to go to a consult as soon as possible.

My current doctor has recommended that I take Isotretinoin. Unfortunately, I've read all the side-effects ( like it gets worse before it gets better, depression, physiological changes in the body that may be permanent ) and I don't believe that it's worth it.

I'm now trying the Vitamin B5 therapy which seems to be working for me. I've only been on it a week and I've seen a huge difference in my zits. I go to a recommended facial/pimple pricking ( torture ) at least every other week or so ( as recommended by my doctor ). By this time, I should have lots of acne on my face but I've noticed that the pimples are getting smaller. And my forehead seems to be clearing up. Mind you, I'm not taking the mega doses of B5 just half the recommended dose and I'm already seeing results.

I'll post my research on a separate post.

Based on my research here's the more effective acne treatments:
    1. Isotretinoin/Isotane ( Oral Retinoid )-- it's been used by many Americans and is considered the holy grail of acne medication. However, the side-effects are just too much. Among the worst side-effects are: depression, dryness of lips, conjunctivitis, bone density problems, back ache, congenital deformities ( if you get pregnant while taking the meds or within 3 months after quitting the medication ), severe acne breakout ( upon the start of medication ), relapse ( a lot of people get acne again after taking isotane ).

    2. Vitamin B5 ( Pantothenic Acid )-- Advantages: It's all natural. And any excess will be excreted from the body. It's considered as having an effectivity of 90%. And I believe it's better than Isotane because there are minimal side-effects.
Disadvantage: Too many pills to take, the cost, initial diarrhea and bloating upon start of the therapy.
-- I'm on the B5 therapy right now, but I'm just starting with the low dose ( which is perfectly okay according to some ). But the recommended dosage is 10 mg which translates to twenty 500 mg capsules. That's 5 capsules taken at 4 intervals.
-- Due to the cost and the expense of taking B5 I'm only taking 5 mg.

    3. TCA peels/ Obagi Blue Peel
I've read that TCA peel takes care of acne ( dissolves the sebum and oils ) and gets rid of the post-acne red marks. It's like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone.
The Obagi Blue peel is not as strong as the TCA peel and you may need to get multiple peels to get the same results.

    4. Sulfur with Salicylic Acid Soap
-- This one seems to work. Salicylic acid works to dissolve the oils on the face and the sulfur is antibacterial. It's a good combination especially for people who get infected pimples.

    5. Benzoyl Peroxide
-- They say that if you use mega amounts of BP of 2.5% strength then it's going to remove all of your zits. Unfortunately, it only works on existing zits and does nothing to prevent it from coming back. Which means that you would have to use it on your face forever.
BP causes irritation, redness and peeling.

    6. Diet
They say that if you have acne you have acne-triggers. Avoid foods that will make you break out.
I found out recently that there really is a link between what you eat and your acne.
Here are the list of worst offenders:
    1. Iodine-- Iodine is the only thing so far that's been definitively linked to acne flare-ups.
-- Iodine is contained in seafood, seaweed, milk and dairy products.
    2. Sugary foods
-- There's a doctor who said that there really is a link with having too much sugar on your system and having acne. The thing is, if you are prone to acne, having too much sugar in your system would only aggravate it.

There's no link between chocolate and acne but since chocolates have lots of sugar in it, I believe that taking too much sweet chocolates would have an effect.

    List of good facials:
It's funny but I don't recommend the dermatologist facials. They're just too painful.

Based on my experience the best facial so far is at Ruiz Derma. It's really expensive but it's really nice. The therapists are gentle on your face. And I got an Acne facial recently which was way better than the facial I got from the dermatologist's office. Their facials use a kind of laser post-pricking that really effectively dries the acne. The thing with my dermatologist's facial is that they only use an antibiotic solution which does nothing to dry up the pimple. You have to dry the pimple to properly seal it.

Iontophoresis Facials with medication ( Retin-a ). They're good if you have active zits. It helps reduce the red spots and the redness. Only disadvantage is that I don't believe it really prevents pimples.

To get rid of the red acne marks really fast--- the best would be any chemical peels. I've tried one years ago at Dermclinic. The doctor used a concentrated glycolic solution or was it TCA? Within a week, the red spots were gone.
