Using your computation, assuming 85watts is the difference between a X2 3800+ and a P820, that goes out to 1.8k savings a year to get the same video encoding performances. The price difference as of today, AND NOT IN ANY FUTURE, between the two is 10k, thats 5.6 years of computer use before it evens out. Will you still use the same processors by then?
Besides, ask any electrical enginner if that is the correct way to compute your electric consumption, remember your electricity does not go direct to the processor but goes through your PSU/Power supply which also dictates the power consumption of the whole PC. Also remember that 85 watts is just 2-40 watt light bulbs of use, or less than what a guitar/bass amp will consume. And we are not talking about internet cafes, but for a 1 or 2 pc DAW for audio/video.

Guys, remember we are talking about audio/video DAW and not gaming. If it was for gaming I would go for AMD with no second thoughts. But I have been doing audio/video since 1995 and intels in my experience have always been slightly better in audio/video. I have also been an AMD user since the 586, until my present 3200+ venice because I also like my games.

but the point is, for a price/performance comparability:

    price: P820 - 8k, Venice 3200+ - 8k but the P820 kicks the 3200 in audio/video performance

similar performance: P820 - 8k, X2 3800+ - 18k, only in video performance will the 820 equal the X2, in other aspects the X2 will smoke the P820

If you want to compare the top-of-the-line processors of both companies, meaning you have the $$$$ (40k+ peso) to burn, then you will have to take in consideration the MAC platform mainly because of the stability, softwares for that platform for the price point.

I don't have any qualms about intels, AMDs or MACs, they are all tools if you ask me, the idea is have the most suitable tool for you considering performance, price, and return of investment.

i realized my socket 478 pentium 4 2.4ghz performed a lot better. 3 times slower ang loading time and mas mu drag pa ang dual core compared to my pentium 4 2.4ghz. tsk tsk.... ako pailisan ang dual core ug pentium 4.
