sa qustion intel vs AMD though, it depends unsang family ug unsa use..if we compare prescotts vs a64s, A64 jud hands down..pero sa karon, with intels CORE2 (aka CONROE) id have to say intel has the performance crown..and AMD fans (like me) will have to wait for AM3 (AM2 will be phased out soon)for AMD to have a shot at the pwerformance crown once again
Exactly when is that delcaration of yours AMD phasing out AM2 as "Soon"Originally Posted by gravy_addict

I'm sorry but this news on the frontpage sounds more like a stupid mistake than something worth buying, I mean why did they even bother with AM2 if they're just gonna replace it in 2007 with Skt AM3, sure its got DDR3 support and HT 3.0, then whats the point of Skt AM2 if its gonna be replaced so soon after release? Or could it be that the K8L release is a little farther off than expected? Then again when you look back when the pentium 4 was originally released on Skt 423 wasn't it not soon after that it was placed with Skt 478?
Socket 939 lasted close to 2 years, I don't really understand AM2's short lifespan as a socket, but its nice to know the processors are forward compatible with AM3 according to that article.
AM2 is like AMD's new socket 754.
so AM2 will still be in production.but it will be ;like socekt 754..its there but theres a superior socket..so its kinda phased out in a way that ther are better offerings from AMD which is AM3
If you did read that link it says socket AM2 will be forward compatible with socket AM3, K8L will be released under socket AM3 unless plans change and as for today this is AMD's current road map, it is not comparable to s754 where in you need to change a new socket, therefore making the term phased out not really appropriate for this.

even at Q3 2007 theres no sign of AM3 nor K8L, so unless im mistaken a year is not really "that" soon.
by phased out i meant as the top socket..i mean if you are building a new rig, why would you buy an AM2 if there is an Am3 available?
so for guys that are on s939 (like me) it wouldnt be a good idea (unless enthusiast jud kaayo) to switch to Am2, sure it will be Am3 cojpatible (do note that there is still confsion wether Am2 cpus will fit into Am3 mobos or am3 cpus will fit into Am2 mobos) so if i were to upgrade to am2, even if it will accept am3 procs, it wouldnt be a good idea kay am3 will support ddr3 while am2 mobos support ddr2 (or ambot..makalibog na man oi)
