I think people want more happiness because of human's adaptibility to pleasure..Pleasure repeated several times becomes less pleasure as organisms grow more accustomed to it..I forgot what its called something like "Adaptation to Pleasure".

Morag maanad man god ang tawo sa pleasure until it becomes no longer pleasurable..og ang research is also good since being better than another is also another form of pleasure in which people can also get used to..I also think na if you're used to having better lives than other, then the pleasure it causes will become lesser with time but i think the satisfaction would be constant..

wala ko ka remember exactly unsa jud to..basta something like human adaptation to happiness..

amen, my point exactly. Capitalism relies too much on the function of the consumers.

Advertising agencies have switched their arguments from utilitarian ones to those gauged for emotional appeal and status.

"Due to the inherent stratification of goods and services (and hence standards of living) available to those with more and more purchasing power, the human being is groomed to perpetually want “more” material wealth, for the “more” seems to go to infinity. The result is a culture which doesn’t have a concept of balance, or a sense of what is actually important, or “enough”." - tzm

have people ever noticed that there is a never-ending progression of “luxuries” available as one’s purchasing power increases (i.e.: mansions, yachts, limos, diamonds, land, etc)?

Money is just a specific example of the competitive nature of people. Its like saying that IPhone will only makes a person happy if the next guy's cellphone is 5210. Or A Ferrari will only make a person happy if the next guys car is a multicab. People wants to shine in their own little way. Well, no problem with that as long as it will not make the next guy miserable or worse, temp the next guy to covet the happy guy's possessions.

How about if we will change the story.

Would you want to be a sad and lonely fat ass girl with lots of cash or a happy poor lady who can only afford three meals a day?

If money can't buy happiness neither will poverty.

Does that mean that the 2nd richest man in the world is not happy despite his billions?

(Who is the 2nd richest man, by the way?)

maybe he's still happy since he's richer than the 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc..
anyway, this just shows that man is avaricious in nature generally speaking..
