geez... claro na jud kaayo mga bata karon nakalimot na sa mga sala ni Marcos. Aside from robbing the nation, try adding in his list of iniquities human rights violations, assasinations, torture, and gripping a nation on its throat... try talking to your parents and ask them about the Martial Law years and see if makalingaw toh na times...

FIFTEEN years after the end of the Cold War, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo sets aside an additional amount of P1 billion to finance an “all-out war against the communists.” This, when the communists have ceased to be a problem in Southeast Asia -- except in our country. Today, capitalists are queuing up to do business with communist countries -- China and Vietnam. In fact, Ms Arroyo herself took her entire family, including the “yaya” [nanny] of her grandchildren, to Beijing for the NorthRail contract negotiations. Why the double-faced stance?

The truth is, in the Philippine context, the communist insurgency -- especially after being labeled as a terrorist movement -- has become a convenient excuse for failing governance and a handy justification for international fund-raising. The communist bogey comes into play every time tyranny rears its ugly head.

While more than half of our people are hungry, we are generous with funds for bullets and military hardware. While billions of pesos are needed to create jobs and rev up production machines, we spend billions looking for crooks when, in fact, they’re sharing our beds and berths. Instead of throwing our resources into serious anti-poverty programs -- poverty being the only enemy we must wage a valid war with -- we waste scarce resources on Charter change and counterproductive security measures. So what if street protesters want to go to Mendiola? Doesn’t Malacañang belong to the people anymore? After all, Ms Arroyo isn’t there most of the time, and the elite Presidential Security Group is ever strong, manning the Palace gates.

Those who wield power and formulate policies -- political as well as economic -- should start reexamining and overhauling their mind-sets. Perception engineering, in which Ms Arroyo and her Palace cabal excel, cannot keep Ms Arroyo in power forever. Photo ops may be fine during an election campaign but after the contest, statesmanship should take over.

If the country does not move forward for the benefit of all the people, which is the case today, it will “explode” sooner or later -- no matter what all the crooks, scoundrels and verbal magicians in the Palace do.

Do you see the way these countries' economies are run? Yep, while ostensibly communist countries, their economies are actually ran more on capitalist principles. That's how they are so attractive to American investors. Talk about double-faced.

Of course these people would want the president to just sit still and let the communists proceed with their atrocities, and eventually take over the government. Government passivity is good for their interests.

Yeah, after the elections, statesmanship should take over. Unfortunately this is hardly the case with many of our politicians who continue to hold endless investigations for the sake of media mileage, and at the expense of countless pending legislative bills.

Yes, that anti-terrorism bill our Congress is currently sitting on is a ticking time bomb.
