If you just notice, there really is a big discrimination on our local dog breed. I've heard that if an Aspin were found straywalking on the streets, it would be burned by +you know what group+. What if it wasn't an Aspin but a Chihuahua, do you think these guys would still burn it?
Or look at the mentality of some Filipinos, when asked, "What breed is your dog?"
"Ai Askal RA man ni."
"Aspin lang gud."
We don't usually say, "Shih tzu RA man ni or Poodle RA man ni."
It's always, "Shih Tzu, or Poodle." And sometimes with an exclamation mark.
"raman" man gud always tawag jud sa something local. like, made in the philippines ra man ni. sa cebu ra man ni naku gipalit. so unless guro machange ato perspective sa pagpatronize ug something lokal, it will always be aspin "raman" ni. what i meant is, it goes beyond being an aspin maong matawag ug "raman".
so shihtzu wouldn't be called "raman" kay it is something foreign, or not lokal. so bisan pa siguro ug dyangot na nga shihtzu, the fact na dili na siya diri sa ato gikan, di jud ma "raman". same as made in USA, tsurvaness etch etch.
in fairness, i have known a lot of people who cares for aspin. amo mga silingan, aspin ila mga iro and its very well taken cared for. daghan lang jud kaayo aspin mao na daghan sad jud napasagdan. as compared to breeders na you cant acquire kung di nimo paliton. so chances are, if you can afford to get one, you can atleast afford to care for it. pwera nalang sa uban na afford pero gana gana lang.
[QUOTE=buttmen;7537614]how bout including or recognizing the said breed in the PCCI?
so sad it's hard to find aspins in dog shows or any competitions....
Dog parent clubs mangud like AKC or PCCI among others only recognized purebred dogs in conformation dogshows but allow "newly accepted" breeds in their miscellaneous group in their sanctioned events like obedience, agility, etc. So with that, kinahanglan jud maprove na purebred (along with other requirements) ang certain breed before nila iallow to compete or iregister.
lisud i-standardize ang ASPIN as right now, there is no such distinct features (and pedigree origin) ang ato ASPIN. sa pagkakaron, basta mix-mix-mix-mix-mix etc etc... aw ASPIN dayun ang kategorya.
and for breed to be recognized, it has to have a fixed and concrete origin and looks... as a previous poster said, lisud i-claim ng kaning type of dog is ASPIN when elsewhere around the globe nay the same looks and the same porma as thats same ASPIN were trying to claim as ours. lisud.
sa kadaghan na na mix sa aspin murag it will take time gyud to create a pure breed... kinahanglan gyud ni og focus og expertise sa mga experts.
As earlier mentioned... not all 'purebred' dogs are really pure per se... either by natural or modified genetics.
So maybe our aim here should not really be about going back to the very source of the ASPIN bloodline, as there could be none; but to at least make a list of characteristics that make up an Aspin an Aspin.
Right now, the trait that makes a dog an Aspin seems to be the following:
* if a dog's breed is unidentifiable and it is residing in the Philippines.
Sounds like a joke to me, but how else are we gonna put it?
We all know it's very difficult. But to be a pessimist, we could just leave things as they are now, and not doing anything at all.
It could be the same case as with our language. What really is the language of the Filipinos?
