The question is too simple. The dynamics of power and politics need to be considered, and an overly simplistic question like this ignores it. The same families use trickery and deceit to stay in power for generations, so it can be said that the Philippines has not really had ample representation in its inner circle of power; it's mostly the same faces and culture over and over again. They keep the poor stupid, ignorant and uneducated so they can perpetuate their hold on power. When we have true democracy, with new faces and more widespread representation at the top, then we can finally judge whether or not our people deserve the leaders they get.

When most of our politicians are lawyers from families who have been in power for ages, then the Philippines is not ruled by Filipinos, but by a very small representation thereof. I want to see the day when we have more scientists, philosophers, bankers and businessmen running the country. Lawyers are only good for roasting in hell, not for running a country.

Then that would depend on the individual. It is a sure initiative to choose someone who qualifies regardless of the social or political status. The only thing is, Philippine Politics is run not by competence but by circle of friends and fear. Especially in the Provinces where fear of rivaling a strong family bars anyone who intends to run to just stop and be quiet.

Kung walay mu-vote aning mga tawhana then wala na sila sa ila pwesto karon! Ngano man mayor gihapon si Radaza sa Opon? Or si Gwen governor?

The people bear the bigger accountability as to why these scums are still in power. Harapan na kaayong nangawat but still butaran gihapon?

kung mao nlang gani nah.. i suggest to strip voting rights to those nga dali ra mailad and dali ra ma corrupt.. (kadto mga tao naghuwat ta sa grasya)

dili hatagan voting rights ang dili tax payer...

order is a lot better than so-called democracy which is actually anarchy..

there is too much power to those who dont know how to use the power..

power only corrupts you if you dont know how to master it...

the foundation of democracy is that every person is intelligent and incorruptible.. mao bitaw ng naa slave class before sa rome.. kay kung mka vote pa ng mka slaves, patay jud daun ang democracy cuz there are more idiots as voters.. and also, in the case or rome... too much of freedom and success leads to decadence and corrosion of social values.. eg. america. hehe
