Sillimanian Receives Outstanding Chinese-Filipino Award
Jude Rafael Cresencio Tan, Jr., a lecturer at the College of Law and concurrently Assistant Commandant of the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Silliman University, is one of only nine recipients of the 7th Dr. Jose Rizal Awards for Excellence for outstanding Chinese-Filipinos.
The awards are given in recognition of noteworthy Chinese-Filipinos who have contributed to the country’s economic growth, social programs, and political stability.
Designated as Regional Court Administrator of the Regional Court Administration Office of the 7th Judicial Region based in Cebu City, Judge Tan will receive the award in the area of public service.
Judge Tan has been in government service for 32 years. He started out as a military man before joining the judiciary. His present position of Regional Court Administrator entails management of administrative matters of some 148 courts.
A write-up about the award recognized Judge Tan as “dedicated, hardworking, and guided by strict norms of ethics.” Describing him further through his previous assignment as the presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court, which was designated as a Special Drugs Court, the article added: “Judge Tan has amply demonstrated his independence, intelligence and integrity.”
Launched by the Manila Times and the Kaisa Para sa Kaunlaran, Inc., the Awards will honor on June 19 Judge Tan along with the other awardees: Mr. Kenneth Cobonpue for Arts and Culture, Mr. Samie Lim for Business and Entrepreneurship, Ms. Luisa Chua for Community Service, Dr. Ellen Palanca for Education, Mr. Ricardo Lo for Journalism, Mr. Jethro Dionisio for Sports, and Ms. Lily Monteverde who will receive a Special Award.
